Five named for Caf's top award
The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has nominated five players for its 2006 player of the year award.Three-time winner Samuel Eto'o of Cameroon, who plays for the Spanish giants Barcelona, is among the nominees.
The Chelsea duo of Ivorian Didier Drogba and Ghana's Michael Essien were also included in the list.
The others for the honour are Nigeria's Nwankwo Kanu, who has twice grabbed the award, as well as Mohamed Aboutrika, whose dying-minute goal ensured Egyptian club Al Ahly retained their African Champions League trophy this year.
The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in the Nigerian capital Abuja on 18 January.
All 53 member-nations of Caf along with the CAF media and technical committees are expected to vote for the continent's best player.
