Hammers set for Wright-Phillips talks

New West Ham owner Eggert Magnusson is to discuss the possible signing of Shaun Wright-Phillips with Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon.

Magnusson, who has completed an £85million takeover of the Upton Park club, has promised manager Alan Pardew money to spend in the January transfer window.

Winger Wright-Phillips, who has started just 15 of 51 appearances for the Blues following his £21million move from Manchester City in the summer of 2005, is understood to be top of the wanted list.

'He has not been playing regularly at Chelsea, but he's a good player and he has great possibilities to do well,' said Magnusson on BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme.

'Alan has told me he has already asked Chelsea about him. It came out of Chelsea that we have shown an interest, but it has not gone any further.

'I know Peter Kenyon well and I think we will sit down and try to find the right fee, whatever that might be.'

The Hammers have also been linked with David Beckham, who is struggling to command a regular place at Real Madrid under coach Fabio Capello.

A wary Magnusson added: 'This is the first I have heard about him linked with West Ham.

'The way he has played at Manchester United and Real Madrid, he is a great player, and it's an honour he has been linked to West Ham.

'I might be the incoming chairman at West Ham, but the manager is the one who changes the team.

'It's his responsibility to build that team. You just can't build a football team with superstars.'

That leaves a huge question-mark over the futures of Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez.

The Argentinian duo were surprisingly signed on transfer deadline day from Corinthians, yet their contracts are owned by a third party.

'That's another discussion I'll have with the manager this week,' said Magnusson.

'We will try to sort out the situation with them, but it's not easy to come to England when you don't speak the language.

'It's a totally different mentality, but it's up to the manager. He has to decide what to do with them.

'But they have the ability to succeed in England. We will tackle the problem.'

Magnusson has also confirmed his aim to move to the Olympic Stadium following the 2012 Games.

'That's my dream at the moment,' said Magnusson.

'But we have to start discussions and see what can be done.

'We know we have to keep to the athletics legacy that has been promised after the Olympics.

'Look at the Stade de France, which is a great venue, and you can compare it very well.

'I know we bought West Ham with where they are now, at the Boleyn Ground, but looking at the future this is definitely the way we want to go.'

Hammers plan to keep duo

Alan Pardew believes West Ham will reap the dividends by keeping Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano in the long term.

The futures of the Argentine duo remain uncertain following a slow start to life in The Premiership with both failing to shine in England.

Tevez stormed out of Upton Park after being replaced by Teddy Sheringham in the club's 1-0 win over Sheffield United on Saturday.

Reports last week hinted the pair could be set for a move to Atletico Madrid. However, Pardew believes it is in The Hammers' best interests to retain the duo.

"Carlos is a great player. He is just starting to get to grips with what The Premiership is all about," explained Pardew.

"It would be nice if we could keep that class of player at the club because that's the kind of players we want to bring in to improve the club.

"If we can keep him and Javier Mascherano then we are going to get the best out of them and it will benefit us next season."

Tevez to wear Brazil shirt as punishment

Argentinian striker Carlos Tevez has been ordered to wear a Brazil shirt in training by his team-mates as punishment for his walk-out at the weekend.

The 22-year-old left Upton Park in a fit of pique last Saturday after being substituted against Sheffield United, but Hammers boss Alan Pardew decided Tevez's team-mates would be allowed to decide what punishment he should face.

They plumped for a fine of £1,000 to be paid to charity and it is reported that they also insisted that the player should wear the national team shirt of Argentina's bitter rivals.

Tevez, who left Brazilian club Corinthians to join the Hammers in a shock transfer in late August, has yet to score in eight league appearances.

Carlos Tevez has joked he would rather forfeit his Premiership salary than wear the Brazil shirt that his West Ham team-mates have lined up as a punishment for his recent indiscretions.

The Argentinian international was forced into a humbling apology after walking out of Saturday's 1-0 win over Sheffield United after being substituted, and is now paying the price at the training ground.

Hammers boss Alan Pardew left Tevez's punishment up to his team-mates at Upton Park, and, as well as making a charitable donation to Great Ormond Street Hospital, the London side asked the deadline day signing to don the shirt of his country's greatest rivals.

Despite playing in Brazil with Corinthians before moving to England, the forward remains a died-in-the-wool Argentinian and would much rather forfeit his substantial earnings that open himself up to ridicule in his home country.

"I think that my team-mates have gone crazy," laughed Tevez to Argentinian radio station Mitre. "I will never use Brazil's national team shirt.

"My team-mates have a great sense of humour and they have asked me to do that but they know that it will be impossible.

"I have respect for Brazil because I have played there but I would never use that shirt because I am Argentinian.

"Everyone has been laughing at me regarding the sanction and have been making jokes to me. They had three or four ideas and then they voted.

"The first idea was to give me a financial sanction, another one to gather all the balls after the training session but when the Brazilian shirt idea came up they all lifted their hands.

" Mascherano has even made jokes to me saying that nobody was going to know about it.

"I can get all my salary discounted but I am never going to dress in Brazil's or River's shirts."

On a more serious note Tevez - who has failed to shine in the Premiership so far - also denied he is planning to return to his first club Boca Juniors in time for next year's Copa Libertadores.

"I would love to go back to Boca but it's impossible at this moment," Tevez added.

"I am in Europe for only four months. I am going to keep on working very hard to have a chance of playing more frequently.

"I am a person that likes to fight for everything until the end."
