Everton swoop for Fernandes loan

Portuguese midfielder Manuel Fernandes will join Everton on loan until the end of the season, according to his club Benfica.

The 20-year-old, who had been on loan at Portsmouth for the first half of the season, has also signed a new contract to stay at the Estadio da Luz until 2011.

"Benfica have reached agreement with Everton Football Club to loan Manuel Fernandes until the end of the season," said a statement on Portuguese club's website.
