FOXBOROUGH -- Colombian striker Juan Pablo Angel joined the New York Red Bulls yesterday, and Argentina's Guillermo Barros Schelotto is on the way to Columbus. Could the Revolution be the next Major League Soccer team to add an international player?
"We're looking, but it's always the same -- it's never done until it's done," said coach Steve Nicol. "They are either signed or they are not signed, but are we actively trying to sign someone? Yes. In fact, more than one. Things can change like that -- one minute you've got the guy, the next minute you don't.
"We would like to make something happen, but there is no sense of urgency. The squad is playing well, and for any of the 11 in the lineup Saturday not to play would be tough on them. If something happens, fine; if not, we are more than content with what we have."
The Revolution have been offered a Brazilian player from Deportivo Alaves in the Basque region of Spain, according to a source close to the negotiations. Alaves is owned by Dmitri Piterman, a Russian-American businessman and former US Olympian who also has established a lower-division team in San Francisco.
MLS teams are allowed to sign two players outside the salary cap: four designated players have been announced leaguewide, and Barros Schelotto could be the fifth, though he likely will not perform for the Crew against the Revolution tomorrow night in Columbus. Barros Schelotto, 33, has won three Copa Libertadores championships with Boca Juniors.
The Revolution are well-positioned to acquire a designated player, with two foreign roster slots open, and having gained $2.64 million of the $4 million transfer fee paid by Fulham FC for Clint Dempsey. Of the $2.64 million, $500,000 can be used for players, and much of it already has been distributed to current players. Designated player funds are separate. Of MLS's 10 investor groups, only Anschutz Entertainment Group (David Beckham, Cuauhtemoc Blanco) and Red Bull Company Ltd. (Angel, Claudio Reyna) have made DP investments.
The Revolution seldom have acquired high-profile foreign players in recent years. Steve Howey (England) and Jose Manuel Abundis (Mexico) have joined the Revolution for late-season runs but seldom played. Of New England's starters, only Avery John (Trinidad and Tobago) and Khano Smith (Bermuda) arrived from outside the MLS draft or through trades.
Though the Revolution have reached the MLS Cup the last two seasons, they might have maximized their current resources. One or two influential foreigners could elevate them to a dominant position in the league.
Boston is expected to be named among eight venues for a women's professional soccer team today. Former Boston Breakers general manager Joe Cummings and the US national team's Angela Hucles and Kristine Lilly will be at the announcement. Other teams will be in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, St. Louis, and Washington, D.C.

The 32-year-old, whose wife holds a United States passport, has been released by North End with immediate effect to join Toronto.
Dichio was expected to make the switch in the summer but had to be signed by 15 April.
Toronto, who are managed by ex-Scotland striker Mo Johnston, are in their first MLS season and have been given extra funding, which had to be spent by then.
Dichio scored only seven times for Preston in a near two-year stay at the Championship club.
He joined Preston following earlier spells with Millwall, QPR, Sunderland, West Brom and Sampdoria.

姚力君坦承美國之行收穫信心 期待夏天能與小貝相會

北京時間4月17日晚上18點35分，上海申花隊隊員姚力君從西雅圖飛抵上海，回到離開13天的家鄉，盛興而去的申花小將並沒有帶回留洋的合同。上海方面的經紀人表示，雖然此次試訓沒能就租借或者轉會達成一致，但並不代表姚力君的留洋之門關閉，無論是西雅圖還是銀河，都還有商討的餘地，姚力君會上海，一方面是兩支球隊對於姚力君的實力基本做到了心中有數，二則是姚力君本人也希望能回家看看，調整一下心態。
剛剛從西雅圖歸來第二天就投入訓練的姚力君對記者講起了他試訓的生活，在他的記憶裡，剛剛過去的一個月，是他成長的中一個值得紀念的階段，無論是見識還是能力都得到了提升。體重降了許多，明顯消瘦的姚力君自己給這次外國行加上一個"快樂"的定語，他說很值。
試訓收穫滿滿
由於簽證問題和美國聯賽的開始時間，使得姚力君無法在期望的時間留在美國大聯盟，因此，在試訓西雅圖半個月後，姚力君回到上海，重新加入到
申花球員的訓練隊伍中。雖然沒能帶回一紙合同，但是姚力君仍然感慨不虛此行。
首先是自信心，姚力君說，這次的試訓讓他收穫做大的就是自信心，無論是美國大聯盟還是西雅圖教練隊友都給了他很大的自信心，甚至在美國大聯盟訓練的第一天，他的傳球以及態度都得到了教練和隊友的首肯和鼓勵，友好的態度讓他忘卻時差帶來的疲憊以及陌生環境給他的膽怯，讓他覺得自己行。在出去之前，尤其在去年聯賽末表現不錯卻在隨後不得不面對轉會聯城申聯合等一系列變故逐漸失去上場機會的狀況下，他的自信心不太足了。這次出去，讓他重塑信心，對自己重新估量。
無論是在美國，還是在西雅圖，國外球員場下的友好以及場上的"較真"也是姚力君很讚歎的，他說，在國外，那些平時國人口中的大牌在場下很友好，會主動和你聊天溝通，會談起上海，談起姚明，會和你開玩笑，會說有問題隨時問，有需要隨時願意幫忙；到了訓練場，和比賽沒有兩樣，很拼，將每一分鐘的訓練都當成真的比賽。
自己的生存能力也得到了鍛鍊，從第一天克服時差問題開始，他就告訴自己，姚力君是中國人，出來了就要珍惜機會，好好表現，為自己為上海為國家，在不斷的摸索中，他覺得他的生存能力提升了一大截。
期待7月份與小貝相會
在去之前，姚力君曾經和記者開玩笑說希望可以和小貝住隔壁，這樣，他可以天天和國際巨星討教，但是，這次的行程並沒有讓姚力君實現小小的願望，因為貝克漢姆要7月份才到大聯盟報到。
當然，見小貝只是一個順便，其實真正能夠有機會在國外競技場得到機會才是他最嚮往的，因此，樂觀開朗的姚力君依然期待著7月份，銀河真的能夠再給他機會，給他開始新的旅程的鑰匙。他告訴記者，今後他將在球隊一起訓練，聽從俱樂部的安排，先安心把聯賽打好，至於留洋，經紀公司將給他全權操作，自己能做的都做了，現在能做的只有安靜的等待。
從春節期間接到對方的試訓邀請函，到4月3日正式辦妥相關的簽證手續，姚力君等待了將近兩個月的時間。原本可以早早動身，因為春節受到耽擱，再加上美國簽證手續的繁瑣，讓姚力君放慢了朝夢想前進的腳步，從而影響直接影響了銀河教練對他的考察時間。由於美國大聯盟是在4月中旬全面開打，而洛杉機銀河隊在4月8日將迎來了首場聯賽，在這樣的情況下，由於銀河主教練精力完全投入在目前備戰聯賽的工作中，因此雖然通過兩天的訓練，並且銀河隊主教練弗蘭克見證到了這位中國球員的能力，通過訓練比賽，對於姚力君的往返和防守能力表示滿意。但是，弗蘭克在權衡利弊後還是對這個中國小夥潑了冷水：你來得太晚了，本月13日就是轉會的截止期！轉會的話可能要到7月份，並且隨後表示希望姚力君留在洛杉磯，和銀河一起訓練，這期間銀河俱樂部將支付姚力君工資。但是姚力君在6月正式加盟球隊之前不能代表銀河隊比賽。這個情況是姚力君不太能接受的，因為他的簽證只有一個月時間，如果不能在這個時間裡簽定合同，那麼他就無法留在銀河隊跟隨訓練。
在這樣的情況下，姚力君與經紀人協商後決定將目光投向其他球隊。4月9日，姚力君在經紀人的陪同下離開了洛杉磯，前往西雅圖開始了新的試訓之旅。再16天的試訓，西雅圖方面給了姚力君很高的評價，並且表達了想留下他的意思。因此，此番姚力君回國，也是進一步和俱樂部，和經紀公司以及家人商量是否留在西雅圖，還是留在國內等待銀河的消息。相比較而言，留在西雅圖的可能性遠遠高於美國大聯盟。
