Muntari seals Pompey move

Udinese midfielder Sulley Ali Muntari has joined Portsmouth after signing a five-year contract with the Premiership club.
The Ghana international is understood to have completed a £7m move, becoming the club’s most expensive player in history, even though the English club have only noted that he has arrived for an undisclosed fee.
Muntari was specifically wanted by manager Harry Redknapp and he’s delighted to have finally got his man after he caught the eye at Germany 2006.
“I saw him for the first time in the match between Ghana and Brazil when he was the best player on the pitch,” explained Redknapp.
“I have watched him three times since and he has been very impressive. Ghana have one of the best midfields in the world and he is a regular in their side, he has a great future.
“We had already tried to net him during the last two transfer windows, but Udinese did not want to sell.”
The 22-year-old Muntari, Portsmouth’s third signing after the free captures of Sylvain Distin from Manchester City and Charlton’s Hermann Hreidarsson, had declared that he was excited at the prospect of joining the English outfit.
“I am waiting for the day I will join Portsmouth,” he announced after playing in a charity match at Fratton Park a few weeks ago. “I want to play here.”

Chelsea give Crespo to Inter

Hernan Crespo will extend his spell at Inter after Chelsea agreed to let him stay at the San Siro, the player’s agent has confirmed.
“We have finalised a deal with Inter,” revealed the South American’s representative Fernando Hidalgo.
“We have agreed to another year on loan, plus a new two-year contract. We are very happy as this is exactly what we wanted.”
The Argentine, who is contracted to the Stamford Bridge club until 2008, had joined the Nerazzurri last summer on a loan deal and was keen to remain.
Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon was expected in Milan today to discuss the player’s position with talk that Crespo would be recalled, given that they will lose Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou to international duty next season.
However, Kenyon did not travel to Italy, but technical director Marco Branca received a fax this morning confirming that Chelsea will not avail themselves of the option to recall him.
The much-travelled attacker, who also appeared for Parma, Lazio and Milan, scored 14 Serie A goals this season and recently stated that he was ready to end his career with the Beneamata.
