HEINZE HAS UNITED FUTURE - FERGIE
Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted Gabriel Heinze can still have a future at Manchester United even if the Premier League reject his proposed move to Liverpool.
Heinze has a letter he believes entitles him to join the Anfield club, who have matched United's stipulated desire for a £6.8million transfer fee.
United officials contend the letter, signed by chief executive David Gill, does not over-ride the Argentina defender's contract, which still has two years to run.
Currently sidelined with a minor knock sustained during the Copa America, Heinze will have his future determined by the Premier League, who are due to assess the situation on August 20.
Yet, despite his stated desire to join the Red Devils' fierce north-west rivals, Ferguson does not believe there will be a problem with Heinze turning out for United again.
"Nothing has moved as far as Gaby is concerned," said the United boss.
"We have a meeting on August 20 which will settle the issue once and for all.
"We think our case is strong and we are depending on that.
"And, if it goes our way, Gaby definitely has a future here. He still has another two years left on his contract."

LYON LINKED WITH HEINZE
Lyon could be about to launch a late bid to land Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze.
The French champions were linked with the former PSG man earlier in the summer, but may mount a bid after Cris suffered a serious knee injury in their Ligue 1 opener against Toulouse on Saturday, according to L'Equipe.
The Brazilian defender was carried off on a stretcher during the surprise 1-0 defeat and is due to undergo a scan to determine the extent of the injury.
But in the meantime Lyon boss Alain Perrin is said to be a big admirer of Heinze, who is desperate to leave Old Trafford and is a target for Liverpool.
With United manager Sir Alex Ferguson having underlined he does not want to let the Argentina international join one their arch rivals, the case will be heard by a Premier League arbitration panel next week.

Lyon Target Sylvestre, Thuram And Yepes
Olympique Lyonnais have targetted Lilian Thuram, Mario Yepes and Mickaël Silvestre after Cris suffered a serious injury that could keep him for six months during the opening game of the season.
The Brazilian defender limped out of Lyon's defeat against Toulouse and is set to miss the majority of the campaign, leaving Alain Perrin looking for an experienced defender to come in.
Tempting Silvestre to leave Old Trafford would be an expensive and he has already shown his intent to stay by rejecting an €8m offer from Newcastle United recently.
Perrin believes that Thuram could be an option as the veteran Barça defender knows that he will face stiff competition for a place in Frank Rijkaard's team next term.
The Blaugrana have signed Gaby Milito to play alongside Carles Puyol, who is due back from injury in September, and the club already has Oleguer and Rafa Márquez on its' books.
Thuram has only been at Camp Nou a season and has been an integral part of pre-season at Barça, while Rijkaard is keen to use his experience off the pitch as well as on.
If both those avenues come to nothing, then Lyon may well lodge a bid for PSG's Yepes who has spent three years in the French capital.

Cut-price Heinze offered to Barça and Real
Gabriel Heinze, the disaffected Manchester United defender, has been offered to Real Madrid and Barcelona at a discounted fee in a last-ditch attempt to prevent the Argentinian from pursuing a move to Liverpool.
A Premier League arbitration panel meets tomorrow to rule on Heinze’s future, but in a new twist to an increasingly malevolent saga, it has emerged that Spain’s leading two clubs have been asked if they would like to sign the player for less than the £6.8m United named as his “release price” in a letter to Heinze’s agent.
The development may be a further signal of how desperate United are not to sell him to Liverpool. Heinze says the letter gives him permission to join any club willing to pay £6.8m, as Liverpool are. United insist it was always made clear to Heinze that he would not be allowed to move to one of their main Premier League rivals. Lyon, the French club, have expressed a willingness to meet the £6.8m valuation and there is also interest from Juventus in Italy but Anfield is Heinze’s favoured destination.
It is thought to be unlikely that Real Madrid or Barcelona will offer a way out of the mess. Despite the opportunity of acquiring a top international at a reduced price, Real have other transfer priorities. The Spanish champions are still pursuing Chelsea’s Arjen Robben and Daniel Alves of Sevilla, who would each cost in the region of £20m. Barcelona are believed to be happy with their options at left-back, having recently signed Eric Abidal.
Heinze has given no sign he will back down over his wish to become the first player to move directly from United to Liverpool since Phil Chisnall in 1964. It is understood, indeed, that the defender is prepared to take his case to Fifa should the Premier League rule against him.
At the centre of the dispute is the letter, given to Heinze’s agent, Roberto Rodriguez, and signed by United’s chief executive, David Gill. United told Rodriguez that their valuation of the player was £6.8m and that he could negotiate with interested clubs. No exceptions were named but Gill says Rodriguez was made aware at a subsequent meeting that offers from Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal would not be considered.
A measure of the saga’s bitter nature is that it is believed a tape recording was made of a conversation between Gill and Rodriguez to be used as evidence in the event of the case ending up in court.
Heinze is in full training with United but Sir Alex Ferguson indicated he will not be considered for selection today. Ferguson and Gill have stated it is still possible for Heinze to remain at Old Trafford and play for United, despite him seeking a move to his club’s fiercest rivals. Their anger is directed towards Rodriguez, whose conduct a United source branded “ungrateful”.
In legal terms, the dispute is a contract issue between Heinze and United, and Gill has said he has “no issue with what Liverpool have done”. The Anfield club are convinced that Heinze will win the fight and Rafael Benitez has kept a place open for the Argentinian in his squad.
