Ghirardi confirms Cuper dealTuesday 11 March, 2008
President Tommaso Ghirardi is ready to unveil Hector Cuper as the new Coach of Parma this evening.
Di Carlo was given his marching orders after the Crociati’s 2-1 defeat against Sampdoria on Sunday.
After two days of fierce speculation with Nevio Scala, Gianni De Biasi and Carlo Mazzone in the frame, Ducali chief Ghirardi has revealed his selection.
“The contract hasn’t been signed yet, but the deal is practically done,” he stated at the Collecchio Sports Centre.
“We had 36 hours to decide and in the end we opted for an experienced boss like Cuper because he can quickly help us out of this situation.
“Cuper will arrive in Italy later this afternoon and we will formalise the deal that is already in place.
“We have spoken on the telephone and hopefully a contract will be signed this evening.”
The new man joins Parma with the Emilia-Romagna outfit only clear of the drop zone on goal difference.
Cuper has been out of work since leaving Real Betis last year and is best remembered in the peninsula for his spell at Inter.
The Argentine tactician was at San Siro between 2001 and 2003 when he secured second and third-placed finishes and lost out to city rivals Milan in the Champions League semi-finals of 2002-03.

New Parma boss Hector Cuper has given his first Press conference with the Ducali and is ready to ring the changes at the Stadio Tardini.
The Argentine received the call from President Tommaso Ghirardi after Domenico Di Carlo was axed following last Sunday’s defeat against Sampdoria.
Despite optimistic pre-season predictions, the Emilia-Romagna outfit are languishing just above the drop zone and former Inter man Cuper has a lot of work to do.
“I’m very happy to be back in Italy and I want to thank the President,” he told journalists at the Collecchio Sports Centre.
“When he offered me the job I accepted immediately. It will be a difficult task, but I am sure that we will succeed.
“I have seen Parma play and I will change little things everywhere because it has to be done. This isn’t a time for words, but for actions.”
“We don’t have much time, but we must be calm. I need to talk to the players because the mental side is the first thing we must work on, but the first impression is good because everyone is smiling.”
This time last season, Ghirardi turned to Claudio Ranieri and he managed to deliver salvation in similar circumstances.
“I’m not scared of being compared to Ranieri,” Cuper continued. “After all, he is at Juventus and I am at Parma, so we will meet on the pitch.
“The objective is to stay in Serie A and we will think about the future later. All I’m asking for from the fans is patience.”
Cuper starts his reign with a crucial trip to fellow strugglers Livorno this weekend. “We don’t have much time, but we must be calm. I need to talk to the players because the mental side is the first thing we must work on,
