Real Madrid have struck terms with Werder Bremen midfield ace Diego, it has been revealed.
Welt am Sonntag says the Brazil international has already agreed a contract with Real, which now must negotiate a fee with Werder to land the Germany international, who is a favourite of coach Bernd Schuster.
Diego is upset after Werder's UEFA Cup elimination by Rangers and has also been publicly criticised in recent days by one of his great defenders, Werder sports director Klaus Allofs.
Indeed, German reports say the Werder dressing room are resigned to Diego quitting the Bundesliga club in the summer - and Real are favourites to land the midfield schemer.
Real Madrid juniors boasting major star names
Real Madrid management are quietly pleased with the progress of three of their young starlets.
The son of Zinedine Zidane, Enzo, named after Uruguayan great Enzo Francescoli, is impressing at Real. As is the son of AC Milan and former Real striker Ronaldo, Ron, who plays in the same junior team as Enzo.
Michael Laudrup, the Getafe coach, also has one of his sons coming through Real's youth system.
"I'm pleased, he's doing very well and enjoying it there," said Laudrup last week.

Raul, Guti held Real Madrid crisis talks
Real Madrid's senior leadership group held crisis talks on the flight back from their defeat at Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday night.AS says Real skipper Raul maintained a serious conversation with midfielder Guti for over a half-hour as they went through the team's disappointing performance.
While coach Bernd Schuster maintained that Real deserved something from the game, Raul was overheard admitting they did not deserve to win and that their performance was "dismal".
Guti admitted he felt isolated in midfield, convinced he was the only one who was attempting to create something for the strikers - including Raul.
Another unnamed senior member commented: "We need to make a stronger impact on the game. Whenever we need to exert some authority, we fail to do so."
Amongst the players, there was also surprise over the starting role for Roberto Soldado. Real teammates were pleased for Soldado, but believed Schuster was wrong to throw him in for such a major game.
