Stefano Colantuono has been re-appointed as Palermo boss after Francesco Guidolin was sacked on Monday.
The latter’s departure was expected after the 3-2 home defeat to Genoa on Saturday and Guidolin’s subsequent post-match comments.
“After examining the developments of the last few days, there are no longer the necessary factors in place for Palermo to confirm their faith in Mr Francesco Guidolin,” read a club statement.
“As a result, he has been relieved of his job as first team Coach. That role has been handed to Mr Stefano Colantuono who will take charge of training tomorrow afternoon.”
This is the fourth time in his career that the former Bologna and Vicenza tactician has been replaced by fiery President Maurizio Zamparini.
Guidolin was re-appointed as Rosanero boss just four months ago after Colantuono – his successor – was axed after the 5-0 drubbing at Juventus.
During his fourth stint at the helm, inconsistency reigned supreme as the side collected just 18 points from 13 games.
Colantuono , who was initially hired in the summer after his heroics at Atalanta last season, will face a tough test on his return as the Sicilian club travel to Napoli at the weekend.
Palermo were expected to fight for a top six finish during this campaign, but are currently in 12th place with just 36 points from 30 games.

New Palermo boss Stefano Colantuono has explained his decision to accept a recall from trigger-happy President Maurizio Zamparini.
Colantuono was appointed Rosanero Coach for the second time this morning after Zampa ended Francesco Guidolin’s fourth stint with the outfit.
But the former Atalanta boss, who was somewhat prematurely sacked after the 5-0 November loss to Juventus, seemingly had no concerns about working under the volatile Zamparini again.
“I’m back because the opportunity arose and I’m happy to be working again,” he stated. “I’m a man who adores pitch life and it is hard for us in my business to just sit and watch others.”
Palermo have had a disastrous season and Guidolin was shown the door after collecting just 18 points from 13 games, results which have seen them slip to 12th.
“We just want to do the best we can and re-find that serenity and tranquillity that is needed for us to express our true potential,” added Colantuono.
“It’s our aim to end the campaign with dignity and we’ll start again with the game against Napoli on Sunday.
“It will be tough as they are an uncomfortable team to play against. It will be difficult, but I’m looking forward to breathing in the match atmosphere again.”
The outgoing Guidolin has also publicly reacted to the news that just about everyone in Italy, including the tactician himself, was expecting.
“I spoke to the President and he told me of his decision,” the ex-Vicenza maestro explained. “The conversation was very relaxed and it was important for me to clarify my comments after the Genoa reverse.”
Guidolin set himself up for the chop by making a number of statements after the 3-2 home loss on Saturday which would have made it tough for him to remain on the bench.
“The disappointment and the tension following the game took over and it led to some unhappy words,” he continued.
