Hector Cuper is convinced Parma can snatch a result away to Fiorentina and give themselves hope of avoiding the drop.
“It is very important that we have our fans there, as the team really, really needs them,” said the Coach upon hearing around 4,000 supporters would be making the trip to Florence.
“It is not the same when you step out on to the field and wave to the stands only to see nobody waving back at you. Their presence can give us that extra confidence and motivation.”
Parma need every bit of help they can get, as the fixture list could not have been crueller with Fiorentina and Inter to close the season.
“Our only focus is on winning and that is what we are working towards. We have to get that idea firmly into our minds. A draw would not be positive, as we’d need to rely on other results.”
Yet the Viola are motivated too, as they require a victory to have any hope of catching Milan in fourth place.
“It is a game both sides need to win,” added Cuper. “When I took over, I knew we would have some difficulties, although I hoped by this stage we’d already be safe.
“When you come in mid-season there is optimism, but also the awareness you must get to know the squad quickly and take the problems in hand. After three or four matches I understood we’d be in for a dramatic finale.”
Luca Bucci, Bernardo Corradi, Domenico Morfeo, Andrea Pisanu and the suspended Fernando Couto are sidelined.
