Sinisa Mihajlovic has admitted that he was stunned by Inter’s decision to sack close friend Roberto Mancini.
Nerazzurri chief Massimo Moratti ended Mancio’s four-year reign earlier this week, despite the tactician leading the club to an unprecedented hat-trick of League titles.
“I never expected such a decision from Moratti,” said Mihajlovic, Mancini’s assistant on the Inter bench.
“I do not agree with what has happened. Mancini could have continued to win at this club with just a couple of new signings.”
Mancini has yet to publicly speak following his axing and Mihajlovic, a former teammate of his at Sampdoria and Lazio, has explained what Mancio is going through.
“He took it very, very badly,” the former free-kick specialist revealed. “He was very disappointed with what happened.
“Roberto came out of the meeting with the President and phoned me immediately to tell me the news. It was the wrong decision.”
Inter, who have yet to officially announce Mancini’s departure, will appoint Jose Mourinho as their new Coach.
Meanwhile, Mancini is being linked with the Chelsea job after the Stamford Bridge boys axed Avram Grant.

Roberto Mancini has hit back at Inter after the club confirmed the reasons for his dismissal last night.
Despite winning the Scudetto, Mancio was given the push on Tuesday evening after a brief meeting with President Massimo Moratti.
In a statement issues yesterday, the club insisted that it had sacked Mancio for the comments he made after Inter’s Champions League defeat against Liverpool when he shocked the world of calcio by revealing he wouldn’t be at the helm next term.
However, Mancini has hit back at the Beneamata for the way they have treated him.
“With reference to the Press release from Inter that was published this morning in the majority of newspapers and shown on TV in Italy and abroad, I want it to be known that Inter have disclosed false and illicit events that have seriously offended my honour and my reputation,” Mancini’s declaration to news agency ANSA reads.
“As a Coach I thank the President Moratti, Gabriele Oriali and the whole staff that supported me, but above all the Nerazzurri fans who followed me during four years of unforgettable emotion and continue to show their respect for me.”
Mancini is currently the favourite to occupy the vacant Chelsea hot seat and has also been linked with Manchester City, where his son Filippo is currently on loan.

According to Tuttosport, incoming Inter coach Jose Mourinho has told Massimo Moratti to sell Zlatan Ibrahimovic as he does not consider him as part of his plans for the club.
Mourinho will be appointed as Roberto Mancini’s successor at San Siro over the coming week or so, and he has already begun preparing for the summer transfer market.
There has been much speculation in the Italian press over the past few days that Zlatan Ibrahimovic may move to Barcelona, and indeed quotes attributed to the Swede’s agent Mino Raiola revealed that a swap deal including Samuel Eto’o was on the cards.
Tuttosport today claims that Mourinho has told Inter President Massimo Moratti that Ibrahimovic is not part of his plans for the club, and he wants him sold immediately.
The ‘Special One’ is said to agree with those who believe that Ibrahimovic fails when it comes to the big games, particularly in the Champions League, a competition that Mourinho has been brought to Inter to win.
Mourinho also wants to sell Ibrahimovic because he wants there to be a total break from the whole idea that Inter are only dominating Serie A as a result of the Calciopoli crisis. Many people partly attribute their success since 2006 to the purchase of Ibrahimovic (and Vieira) from Juventus, and Mourinho wants to try and remove Inter’s association with Calciopoli.
