Newcastle hold talks with Keegan
Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan has been holding talks with the Magpies board as speculation mounts over his future, BBC Radio Newcastle understands.
Reports have suggested that the 57-year-old has been unhappy with a lack of control over transfer activity.
Their only business on transfer deadline day was a £5.7m swoop for Spanish striker Xisco and the loan signing of midfielder Ignacio Gonzalez.
Keegan made a dramatic return to Tyneside in January.
The transfer window saw the arrival of five players at St James' Park, with five players leaving the club.
James Milner was one of those who left last week, transferred to Aston Villa for a fee of £12m, with Keegan admitting it had been difficult to see the 22-year-old leave.
BBC Radio 5 Live football reporter Juliette Ferrington believes Monday's meeting came about because Keegan is frustrated by the transfer situation.
"It is thought that the sale of players and the failure to replace them brought this meeting to a head. It has been rumoured over the last few months that his relationship with the club's board has been strained," she said.
Keegan has also supported Joey Barton, after the controversial midfielder spent 74 days in jail for an assault conviction.
Barton will also be attending a personal hearing on Friday after admitting a Football Association violent conduct charge.
Ferrington added: "My understanding is that there was a disagreement over Joey Barton about a potential transfer to another Premier League club.
"Kevin Keegan wanted him to stay, and of course he gets his way but I'm told the board wanted to sell him."
The former Fulham, England and Manchester City boss, who also managed the club from 1992 to 1997, returned to St James' Park for a second time in January following the sacking of Sam Allardyce.

Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has been fired after holding a meeting with club owner Mike Ashley.
The 57-year-old, who walked away from the Toon in 1997, had been called to a meeting with Ashley this morning.
Rumours began to circulate early this morning after Keegan's hoped for three or four major signings failed to materialise as the transfer window closed at midnight on Monday.
Sportsmail online understands that Keegan did not take training this morning and that police have begun arriving at St James' Park and the club's training ground fearing a backlash from fans.
The Newcastle manager was called into a 2pm meeting yesterday which club insiders described as ‘very important but not related to transfer business’ and it is believed a heated discussion took place, with managing director Derek Llambias making it clear they were not happy.
The situation has been coming to a head with Keegan stressing he needs more players, yet apparently he has been told that every player in his squad has a price.

Keegan’s loyalty to bad boy Joey Barton is believed to be a bone of contention with owner Mike Ashley, who tried to move the player out of the club when he was jailed. Keegan also wants to build a team around striker Michael Owen but the club’s contract offer has left Owen in a difficult position.

Yesterday, coach Chris Hughton informed Keegan the club were looking at Lazio defender Gugliemo Stendardo but the move was later ruled out by executive director Dennis Wise.
It is understood that Keegan had little knowledge of the signings made so far, including yesterday’s deal for striker Xisco from Deportivo and the loan capture of Nacho Gonzalez from Valencia.
To add to Ashley’s frustration, he was spoken to by police after downing a pint of beer during his side’s defeat to Arsenal on Saturday in view of the pitch which is not allowed.
Keegan was appointed Newcastle manager for a second time on January 16 after
the sacking of Sam Allardyce.
Following a glittering playing career with Liverpool, Newcastle and England he retired from playing in 1984.
Keegan returned to the game as Newcastle boss in 1992 before also going on to manage Fulham, England and Manchester City.
He went back to St James' Park earlier this year but was thought to be unhappy
with restructuring at the club which saw Dennis Wise appointed as executive director (football).
Keegan recently claimed James Milner would not be sold - only for the midfielder to join Aston Villa in a £12million deal.
But having been unable to add to the signings of Argentinian pair Fabricio Coloccini and Jonas Gutierrez with several big-name stars Keegan is believed to have become disillusioned with his lot at Newcastle. SkySport New: Keegan Leaves Newcastle! 其實kk不滿轉會政策d咩??
