Claudio Ranieri's job seriously hangs by a thread now: after the home defeat by Palermo a fortnight ago, president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli and CEO Jean-Claude Blanc had confirmed their faith in the under-fire manager and vowed they were not looking for stopgap solutions.
But the umpteenth fiasco at the Stadio San Paolo could radically change the scenario. The Bianconeri amazingly managed to throw away the three points after taking the lead through Amauri's spectacular volley.
But defensive blunders helped the Azzurri get back into the match and notch up a second successive home win over the Turin giants. The ex-Chelsea boss was particularly lambasted for his decision to replace Alessandro Del Piero with Paolo De Ceglie after Slovak Marek Hamsik had levelled the scores, clearly suggesting that he was aiming to merely preserve the draw.
The upcoming Champions League clash with Spanish champions Real Madrid and next Saturday's Derby game with local rivals Torino could well seal the ex-Chelsea tactician's fate.
This morning Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport reports that the Agnelli family's heir John Elkann could soon enter the fray to address the problems and try to give a much-needed jolt.
It is also suggested that a shortlist of potential replacements for Ranieri has been drawn up and it includes former Italy boss Roberto Donadoni, ex-Juve players Ciro Ferrara and Gianluca Vialli, and ex-Inter tactician Roberto Mancini. However, they would all be hired to act as caretakers for this season, as Fiorentina's Cesare Prandelli remains their top target for the 2009-10 campaign.

Sportmediaset claims that Juventus heir John Elkann is looking for a new excutive director and Sampdoria's Giuseppe Marotta has popped up on the list. This would mean Blanc would get the chop if the Blucerchiati man arrives in Turin.
Marotta's arrival will also spell the end for under-fire Alessio Secco. Reports suggest former Juventus chief Roberto Bettega will make a return to the club following his resignation in 2006.
Roberto Donadoni is itching to replace Ranieri on the bench and he may arrive sooner rather than later if the Bianconeri lose to the La Liga giants tomorrow night.
Fans have called for the axe to drop and the team was heckled on Sunday morning upon their return from Napoli.
