Betis' Juanito Signs Pre-Contract Deal With Atletico - Report
Atletico de Madrid are reported to have made their first signing for next season after agreeing a deal with Real Betis for Juanito to join them when his contract expires in the summer.
Real Betis captain Juanito has agreed to join Atletico de Madrid on a free transfer at the end of the current season when his contract finishes, according to a report.
The 32-year-old has reached a deal to move to the Vicente Calderon under the Bosman Ruling after being unable to reach an agreement with the Verdiblancos over an extension, Marca state.
Juanito has spent eight seasons in the Betis first team after three seasons in the B side and felt that he was worth a bumper contract as a reward, knowing that other clubs were willing to match what he wanted.
With demands of just €1 million-per-year for three seasons, the Euro 2008-winner was unhappy when the Andalucian outfit refused, and was impressed by Atletico's response.
While Juanito may have been hoping to pen the last contract of his professional career with Betis, Marca report that he knows they will not meet his request and has agreed a deal with Atletico.
Los Colchoneros' defence has been an area of concern for several seasons with Pablo Ibanez's form dipping while Tomas Ujfalusi has not settled and Luis Perea has been inconsistent.
Juanito's arrival will give the Atleti back-line some much needed experience and he could be joined by more new faces as the club are set to bolster their full-back positions in the summer too.
