Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has not recovered from his groin injury and misses out again.
Jonny Evans is a doubt with the groin injury he picked up against Porto. If he is unfit then John O'Shea will deputise in the centre of defence.
Wayne Rooney is in the squad despite suffering a rib injury against Porto.
Liverpool skipper Steve Gerrard has been included in the squad to face Blackburn but is unlikely to start.
A scan revealed Gerrard's thigh strain is not serious but he is expected to be named on the bench, while Javier Mascherano is back after suspension.
Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz (knee) is a serious doubt and Jason Roberts (foot) is definitely out.
Morten Gamst Pedersen is also struggling with a calf strain but Vince Grella is available again.
