GGG50: Adebayor v Newcastle United, 2007
It's time to reveal the Gunners' Greatest 50 Goals - as voted for by Arsenal's fans.
We kick off with a stunning volley from Emmanuel Adebayor.
The Togo striker was unplayable at times during the 2007/08 campaign and Newcastle had no answer to this effort after just three minutes of Arsenal's Premier League game at St. James' Park on December 5.
The visitors launched an early attack but the danger seemed to have passed until a rash clearance landed straight at the feet of Emmanuel Eboue near the right-hand touchline. The Ivory Coast international looked up and floated a perfect delivery towards Adebayor, who had found space between two defenders just inside the box.
Adebayor rose to meet the ball with his chest and, as it dropped, volleyed past Shay Given and into the roof of the net from 12 yards. It was a perfectly-executed strike from a striker at the top of his game.

GGG49: Flamini v Newcastle United, 2008
It's time to reveal the Gunners' Greatest 50 Goals - as voted for by Arsenal's fans.
We continue our countdown with a special strike from French midfielder Mathieu Flamini which lit up our 3-0 Premier League victory over Newcastle on January 29, 2008.
Arsenal led 1-0 at the time thanks to Emmanuel Adebayor's first-half header and they were good value for their lead. With 18 minutes left, Flamini secured all three points.
The move for his goal started with a long kick from Manuel Almunia. Nicklas Bendtner won a flick-on but Emmanuel Adebayor's cross from the right was cleared.
Abou Diaby retrieved possession tight on the left-hand touchline and found Cesc Fabregas, who picked out Flamini 30 yards from goal, left of centre and, crucially, with space ahead of him.
The Frenchman's first touch took him into that space and, as a defender closed him down, Flamini fired in a sweetly-struck drive which faded away from goalkeeper Shay Given and found the top corner. The scorer was hardly a regular on the scoresheet but this one was definitely worth the wait.

Dennis Bergkamp was always going to feature in this list. The question is: how often?
His first contribution is a special one. This goal is perhaps overlooked by some Arsenal fans because it was scored in a pretty run-of-the-mill FA Cup replay and footage of it is hard to come by. But it really does encapsulate what made Bergkamp such a magnificent player.
A blood-and-thunder Cup tie at Roker Park is no place for the feint-hearted but Bergkamp's serenity shone through the storm with an exquisite piece of skill to open the scoring a minute into the second half.
The move started with Nigel Winterburn's throw on the left. He exchanged passes with Patrick Vieira and found Paul Merson, who moved into the left channel and picked out Bergkamp 20 yards from goal.
For once the Dutch master lost control of the ball but he regained it with a classy double drag-back. Now facing the goal but faced with a defender, Bergkamp clipped a curling effort around his opponent, beyond the keeper Lionel Perez and into the top corner.

GGG47: Alan Sunderland v Man United, 1979
It's time to reveal the Gunners' Greatest 50 Goals - as voted for by Arsenal's fans.
Alan Sunderland's dramatic late winner in the 'Five Minute Final' at Wembley in 1979 is not the most attractive goal in the Club's history - but few are more iconic.
The timing of the goal, the magnitude of the occasion and, of course, the delirious celebrations on the pitch, on the touchline and on the terraces all contributed to a spine-tingling Arsenal moment which still resonates more than 30 years later.
For those who don't know the background, Arsenal were cruising in the FA Cup Final thanks to first-half goals from Brian Talbot and Frank Stapleton, both set up by the mercurial Liam Brady. Manchester United looked down and out but hit back through late strikes from Gordon McQueen and Sammy McIlroy.
Arsenal were stunned but there would be one more twist in this tale.
Brady picked up possession from the kick off and, determined to keep the ball away from danger, surged into the United half before pushing the ball out left to Graham Rix. The placement of Brady's pass forced Rix to attack the ball and swing in a first-time cross. GGG46: Thierry Henry v West Ham United, 2002

We’re only in our third day of revealing the Gunners’ Greatest Goals but Theirry Henry has already made a mark.
In August 2002, Arsenal faced a tricky trip to Upton Park for their first away trip of the season as reigning Premier League champions.
And with less than an hour gone, the Gunners, unbeaten in 23 games, were staring an unlikely defeat straight in the face thanks to goals from Joe Cole and Fredi Kanoute either side of the interval.
But cometh the hour, cometh the man.
Patrick Vieira slid a low pass into Henry about 40 yards out, with his back to goal. His first touch left Christian Dailly for dead, his second on the knee set the ball just right and the third was truly emphatic as he sent a sizzling half-volley past David James from 20 yards.
The goal encapsulated two of the mercurial Frenchman’s deadliest assets. The delicate cleverness to shrug off the defender alongside the ferocious power in the finish. It was pure Henry.

GGG45: Freddie Ljungberg v Juventus, 2001
It's time to reveal the Gunners' Greatest 50 Goals - as voted for by Arsenal's fans.
Although this goal belongs to Freddie Ljungberg, it is surely the wizardry of Dennis Bergkamp that secures its berth in our top 50.
Having lost both of their opening Group D games in the second stage of the Champions League, Arsenal needed a win against Juventus to get back in the Quarter-Final running.
They did just that - with some style - epitomised by Ljungberg's classy 88th-minute strike that sealed all three points for the Gunners.
The Swede had opened the scoring in the 20th minute and Thierry Henry fired home a 25-yard free-kick to make it two seven minutes later. However, Stuart Taylor's bizarre own goal in the 51st minute opened the door for an unlikely Juve comeback.
But as the visitors pushed for their equaliser, the Gunners hit them with a sucker punch two minutes from time.
It was Ljungberg who led the counter-attack, surging through the midfield to find Bergkamp on the corner of the area. With two Juventus defenders around him, the Dutchman twisted and turned out of danger before somehow lifting a perfect through-ball to the Swede who had continued his run.
Despite the best efforts of the advancing Gianluigi Buffon, Ljungberg prodded his effort up and over the keeper and into the net.

GGG44: Nigel Winterburn v Chelsea, 1997

Nigel Winterburn didn’t often find the net, but when he did it was usually spectacular.
This last-gasp piledriver was up there with the best of his and what’s more, it settled a topsy-turvy five-goal thriller against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge - certainly worthy of a place at 44.
After only finishing third the previous season, the Gunners started 1997/98 reasonably well, winning three and drawing three of their opening six fixtures. But Chelsea sat a point above Arsène Wenger’s side when the side’s met on a bright September Sunday.
Gustavo Poyet struck the first blow five minutes before the break but Dennis Bergkamp equalised on the very stroke of half-time. The Dutchman swooped again just before the hour mark but Gianfranco Zola levelled matters again 60 seconds later.
Perhaps a draw was a fair result on the day but Winterburn had other ideas.
There seemed little danger when Patrick Vieira fed the left-back almost 50 yards out with a minute left on the clock. Winterburn strode forward and with no Chelsea player closing him down Winterburn let fly.

GGG43: Patrick Vieira v Manchester Utd, 1997

Arsenal scored a trio of superb goals in this enthralling victory over Manchester United and Patrick Vieira’s is the first to feature in our countdown.
Clashes with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are usually high-octane affairs and this one was no exception. And, with only one Premier League defeat in their opening 14 games, Arsenal were starting to believe that Arsène Wenger could deliver the Premier League trophy in his first full season at the helm.
Nicolas Anelka got the Gunners off to the perfect start, slamming home his first Arsenal goal after seven minutes and Vieira swooped 20 minutes later causing delirium among the home supporters.
Ray Parlour’s corner was nodded clear by Henning Berg at the front post but only as far as Vieira scampering across the edge of the area.
Without breaking his stride the Frenchman rifled a swirling right-foot strike over Peter Schmeichel and in off the crossbar.
The then 21-year-old celebrated with gusto, finishing a long sprint by sliding on his knees. Incidentally, the manoeuvre caused Vieira an injury that would see him replaced at half-time.

GGG42: Dennis Bergkamp v Tottenham, 1996

Dennis Bergkamp makes his second mark on our Top 50 by icing the cake in a rain-soaked North London derby.
Arsenal had only won one of their previous six games and were smarting from a narrow defeat to Manchester United when Spurs arrived at Highbury. But, as they say, the form book goes out of the window on such occasions.
Ian Wright handed the Gunners a 28th minute lead from the spot but Andy Sinton equalised with a bobbling long-range effort just before the hour-mark.
A disappointing draw looked on the cards until the 88th minute when Tony Adams slammed his side into the lead with a fierce left-foot strike.
Tottenham were shell-shocked but Arsenal, and particularly Bergkamp, weren’t done yet.
Ian Wright, wide on the right-hand side, twisted away from Ruel Fox with a clever pirouhette before swinging a high, looping cross towards the Dutchman at the back post.
At such an acute angle there seemed little danger but this was Bergkamp. His first touch was truly sublime; it controlled the high delivery, escaped the attentions of Stephen Carr and set himself perfectly for the strike. Then, of course, the finish was perfect.
He may have only been a few seasons into his North London sojourn but the celebration confirmed the importance of a derby goal.

GGG41: Thierry Henry v Sparta Prague, 2005
It's time to reveal the Gunners' Greatest 50 Goals - as voted for by Arsenal's fans.
The circumstances in which this goal was scored makes it memorable but it’s the sheer beauty of the finish that puts it at No 41 in our countdown.
When Arsenal travelled to Prague, top of Champions League Group B, it was unlikely that Theirry Henry would even make the squad. A niggling groin injury had kept the striker out for six weeks and Arsène Wenger would surely not rush him back for this clash against Sparta.
But surprisingly Henry’s name was among the substitutes and, when Jose Antonio Reyes was hurt after only 15 minutes, the boss gave him the nod.
The mercurial Frenchman had been hurtling towards Ian Wright’s all-time goalscoring record before his injury but he made up for lost time after only six minutes of entering the fray.
Kolo Toure’s long pass was expertly controlled with his right outstep, facing away from goal. With space around the ball, the striker shimmied into a shooting position and released a magnificent curling half-volley into the far corner with the outside of his right boot.
There could be no better way to equal Wrighty’s record. It was achingly sumptuous.

GGG40: Bergkamp v Bayer Leverkusen, 2002

Our Top 50 countdown is barely a week old but already Dennis Bergkamp has his ‘hat-trick’.
Last week strikes against Sunderland and Tottenham saw him seal berths 48 and 42 respectively and this truly special finish completes the Dutch master’s early treble.
The Gunners had gleaned four points from their opening three fixtures in the Champions League second group stage when Bayer Leverkusen were the visitors to Highbury in 2002. It was a clash Arsenal needed to win.
Robert Pires and Thierry Henry both swooped in an explosive opening seven minutes before Patrick Vieira all but sealed the points three minutes after the interval.
Arsenal were in cruise control when Bergkamp illuminated the evening with this strike seven minutes from time.
Sylvain Wiltord wriggled off the right flank and fed the Dutchman on the edge of the area. His first touch actually took him away from goal but as one Leverkusen defender closed in Bergkamp turned delightfully.
A little glimpse towards goal and one more touch on his right foot followed before he scooped a trademark chip over Hans-Jorg Butt from 20 yards.
The keeper was only a couple of yards off his line but the precision of the finish ensured that he would get nowhere near it.

GGG39: Bergkamp v Bolton Wanderers, 1996

While Dennis Bergkamp’s previous entries in our Top 50 countdown have encapsulated his craft and guile, his fourth on the list ticks an altogether different box.
On the final day of season 1995/96, Arsenal hosted Bolton Wanderers knowing that only a victory would guarantee fifth place and subsequent Uefa Cup qualification.
Rock-bottom Bolton wouldn’t pose much of a threat, right?
Wrong. Defender Andy Todd stunned Highbury by opening the scoring with a cool finish 14 minutes from time. Arsenal’s European aspirations looked dead and buried.
But David Platt kept the dreams alive with a swiveling effort eight minutes from time before the ‘Iceman’ completed the comeback moments later.
Bergkamp received Platt’s pass 25 yards out, crucially with time to turn. Bolton’s centre-backs were still yards away from him when he set his sights on Keith Branagan’s goal and they were made to pay as the stunning, laser-like effortflashed into the Irishman’s top left-hand corner. Cue utter pandemonium in the Clock End.

GGG38: Anders Limpar v Liverpool, 1992
It's time to reveal the Gunners' Greatest 50 Goals - as voted for by Arsenal's fans.
Goals from George Graham’s era are bound to feature heavily in our countdown and Anders Limpar’s spellbinding chip is the first.
It came during a goal-crazy period in which the Gunners bagged 12 goals in four games but this one was surely the best of the lot.
After winning the Old First Division by seven points in the previous season, Graham’s side were well off the pace when Liverpool visited for the penultimate home game of the 1991/92 season.
But Arsenal, and notably Limpar, ensured that the Gunners finished the campaign in style.
When the Swede tackled Ian Rush eight yards inside Arsenal’s half, there seemed very little on - Liverpool had numbers behind the ball and only Kevin Campbell was beyond Limpar.
One man certainly oblivious to the danger was the Reds’ keeper Mike Hooper, who was standing on the edge of his area.
With two players closing him down and Campbell now in an offside position Limpar made his decision in an instant.
The strike, from just outside the centre circle, was perfect. Firm enough to give the hapless Hooper no chance but with enough dip to get up and over with the ball eventually dropping two yards underneath the crossbar.

GGG37: Thierry Henry v Watford, 2000

By the time Thierry Henry left Arsenal in 2007, football fans all over the world knew the true extent of his talent. But the goal which secures No 37 in our Top 50 was scored at a time when his brilliance was only just starting to emerge.
League leaders Manchester United were all but out of sight when Arsenal travelled to Watford in April 2000 during the final stretch of Henry’s first campaign at the Club. But, despite their points deficit, the Gunners lost none of their efficiency in the first-half at Vicarage Road.
Henry opened the scoring in the 18th minute and Ray Parlour doubled the advantage two minutes before the break. Then, in first-half stoppage time, Henry grabbed his super second.
The Frenchman received the ball 15 yards inside Watford’s half with space to turn. As players closed in on either side of him, Henry’s sheer pace left them trailing in his wake.
Now, only a couple of yards outside the area, two more yellow-shirted defenders were looking nervous and backed off the onrushing striker.
This was enough for Henry who, after shifting the ball onto his right foot, curled a magnificent strike inside Alec Chamberlain’s left-hand post.

GGG36: Cesc Fabregas v Tottenham, 2007
It's time to reveal the Gunners' Greatest 50 Goals - as voted for by Arsenal's fans.
Cesc Fabregas makes his first impression on the Top 50 with this ferocious North London derby strike.
Back in September 2007, 20-year-old Cesc had already established himself as the lynchpin of Arsenal’s midfield - but not really as a goalscorer.
Indeed, his previous season’s best goal-tally was a meagre four but he’d end 2007/08 with 12. This was his fifth in Arsenal’s opening eight games as the Gunners started the season with gusto.
Even a trip to White Hart Lane couldn’t stop them, although they needed to come from behind to get their three points.
After Gareth Bale’s 15th-minute opener, Arsène Wenger’s men had to wait until just after the hour-mark for Emmanuel Adebayor to equalise.
The momentum was with them and, with 10 minutes left on the clock, Arsenal took the lead.
Alexander Hleb started the counter-attack by finding Robin van Persie inside the Gunners’ half. The striker found Mathieu Flamini who in turn fed Fabregas 35 yards from goal.
The Spaniard took one touch and, with the Spurs back-four still backing off, he let fly. The searing right-foot effort flashed across Paul Robinson into his top right-hand corner.

GGG35: Ian Wright v Swindon Town, 1993
It's time to reveal the Gunners' Greatest 50 Goals - as voted for by Arsenal's fans.
This strike is conclusive proof that Ian Wright was not only a great goalscorer but a scorer of great goals too.
Swindon Town may have conceded 100 goals in their only Premier League season, but there wouldn’t have been many better than the stunning chip which claims No 35 in our list.
Rock-bottom Town were on something of a run when the Gunners travelled to the Country Ground on December 27, 1993. After grabbing a 2-2 draw at Anfield a fortnight earlier, Swindon had recorded only their second League victory of the season in their previous outing. The Gunners on the other hand had just one win in five.
But this one was always going to be a mismatch. On any other day Kevin Campbell would have got the plaudits with his superb hat-trick against the Robins but the calibre of Wright’s goal, which made it 4-0, overshadowed his strike partner’s achievement.
In the final minute of the contest, Nigel Winterburn fed Wright 40 yards from goal and with his back to goal. With no Swindon player within 10 yards of him, the striker had time to turn, spot Fraser Digby off his line and shoot.
The chipped right-foot effort sailed over the stranded keeper and into the net via the left-hand post.

GGG34: Thierry Henry v Inter Milan, 2003
It's time to reveal the Gunners' Greatest 50 Goals - as voted for by Arsenal's fans.
You know you've done the business when an Italian crowd claps you off at one of European football's most imposing venues. That's exactly what happened at the San Siro on November 25, 2003 and this goal - scored by Thierry Henry - was the highlight of an outstanding Champions League performance.
Henry and Freddie Ljungberg had given Arsenal a deserved 2-1 lead but, with five minutes left, Inter were throwing the kitchen sink at the visitors in an attempt to snatch a draw. Instead, they were hit by a savage counter-attack.
It all started with an Inter corner. The ball was half-cleared and Ray Parlour completed the job, finding Henry with a well-judged header. The Frenchman had plenty to do - he was 60 yards from the Inter goal with Javier Zanetti in close attention. But Henry made one of the world's finest defenders look like a bewildered youth.
The Arsenal striker outpaced the Argentinian but checked his run just inside the box, allowing Zanetti to make up ground. Henry seemed to have lost his advantage but beat his marker again on the outside before slamming a fierce shot in off the far post. It was a world-class goal from a world-class striker in his pomp.

GGG33: Robert Pires v Aston Villa, 2002
It's time to reveal the Gunners' Greatest 50 Goals - as voted for by Arsenal's fans.
Robert Pires was untouchable in 2001/02 and this goal sums up why.
The French midfielder was named Footballer of the Year for his contribution to Arsenal's most recent Double, even though his season was curtailed by a serious knee injury in March. But six days before his cruciate ligament snapped against Newcastle, Pires produced a strike which has been voted in at No 33 in our list.
It came at Aston Villa during a crucial stage of the title race. And, as so often that season, a moment of Pires magic gave Arsenal the edge.
The Gunners led through Edu's early strike when Freddie Ljungberg picked up possession on the hour mark. The Swede looked up and launched a diagonal pass from inside his own half into the path of Pires' run.
The Frenchman was in a race with George Boateng but beat him to the ball and flicked it deftly over his marker's head to leave him flailing. There was still plenty to do with Peter Schmeichel rushing out to narrow the angle but Pires waited for the ball to drop and nonchalantly lifted it over the Villa keeper and into the net

It's two in a row for Robert Pires as he follows his No 33 placing with another fine goal at No 32 in our poll.
This one sticks in the memory for its quality and its importance. Arsenal arrived at Anfield in October 2003 on the back of a minor wobble following four straight victories to start the season. One win in five raised questions about the Gunners' credentials and they started poorly at Liverpool, falling behind to a Harry Kewell strike.
But to win the League you need a bit of luck and plenty of quality and Arsenal had a decent measure of both to turn the game around. Sami Hyypia's own goal gave the visitors an undeserved equaliser but Pires' second-half strike was worthy of winning any game.
The Frenchman hadn't really got going that season and had drifted in and out of the game at Anfield but he collected Jeremie Aliadiere's short pass 25 yards out and motored in from the left before curling an exquisite shot into the top corner.
His celebration underlined how much it meant to Pires. He was back and Arsenal were back. Six months later they would be crowned champions and this was a big step in the right direction.
