Antonio Cassano could be tempted to join the all-new Napoli for a reunion with Roberto Donadoni, releasing Ezequiel Lavezzi to Liverpool.
FantAntonio has often stated he considers Donadoni one of his favourite tacticians and thanks him for the trust shown in the call-up for Euro 2008.
Since Marcello Lippi resumed control of the Azzurri, Cassano has not received a single cap and was not even included in last night’s friendly with Northern Ireland.
He has found a new calmer stage of his career at Sampdoria, but the arrival of Gigi Del Neri – with whom he clashed repeatedly while at Roma – could prompt a change of scenery.
It’s reported in Tuttosport this morning that Napoli have pinpointed Cassano as the next big step towards building a side capable of qualifying for Europe.
Fabio Quagliarella has already joined from Udinese, but the club needs another big star to appease the fans should Lavezzi be sold to Liverpool for £18m.
Cassano is the player who excites the crowds and would feel right at home at the San Paolo, especially with Donadoni making the call.
Sampdoria would also benefit, as Napoli are prepared to hand over Daniele Mannini and Matteo Contini as part of the transfer.
