Manchester City were last night closing in on an incredible £25million deal for Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor after finally completing the signing of Carlos Tevez.
Manager Mark Hughes has been given surprising encouragement by Arsenal in his move for Adebayor and the deal could even be completed today. The Togo forward is expected to open talks on a five-year deal worth £170,000 a week.
Pairing Adebayor and Tevez - whose £25m arrival was confirmed last night - would be a coup for City as they look to break into the top four of the Barclays Premier League.

Adebayor almost left Arsenal last summer when AC Milan came calling
Manchester City are in negotiations to sign Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor, BBC Sport understands.
The Togo international, 25, is believed to be on sale for about ￡25m after two-and-a-half seasons at the London club.
Adebayor, who scored 16 times for the Gunners last season, has also been linked to AC Milan and Chelsea.
City are intent on building a new-look attack and are on the verge of signing Carlos Tevez, while they have already captured Roque Santa Cruz this summer.
