West Ham defender Calum Davenport is being treated in hospital after suffering "serious" injuries after he was stabbed at his home in Bedford late last night.
"West Ham United can confirm that Calum Davenport was being treated in hospital on Saturday afternoon after an incident late on Friday night," read a statement on West Ham's offical website.
"The 26-year-old defender and his mum both suffered stab wounds at home in Bedford. His mum is recovering while Calum underwent surgery this morning and his injuries were described as serious by doctors.
"The club's medical team are in contact with hospital staff. The thoughts of everyone at West Ham are with Calum and his family and, due to the ongoing police investigation, no further information will be released at this time."
The player's spokesperson said both he and his mother were in a "serious condition".

A former Saints player is in a serious condition in hospital after he and his mother were stabbed in their home.
Calum Davenport and his mum were both taken to hospital after the incident.
The 26-year-old defender is undergoing surgery on both legs after being set upon at his family home in Bedford late last night.
Police have launched an investigation and his injuries have been described by doctors as ''serious''.
Centre half Davenport currently plays for Premiership side West Ham United .
He was on loan at Saints from Spurs in 2005.
He began his career at Coventry City before earning a £1.3m move to Spurs in 2004.
Davenport made seven appearances during his spell at St Mary's and was then manager Harry Redknapp's first signing.
He cost the Hammers £3million when he joined them from Tottenham during the summer of 2007.
The player did not figure in West Ham's first game of the season, at Wolves last week.
Bedford-born Davenport spent a spell on loan at Premier League rivals Sunderland last season and has also been loaned out to Watford.

Police said they were called to reports a man was stabbed in Springfield Road in the Kempston area of Bedford at 5am.
The 26-year-old was taken to hospital with "serious injuries".
Police said they were not through to be life-threatening.
A 19-year old was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of assault and was last night being held in police custody.

"Was listening to the radio this morning while I was waking up. Apparently his sister was involved with a bloke who is supposed to be a part of a bad crowd, both him and his mother tried to talk sense into her but she passed on the word and it all unfolded from there.
They also said the next 48 hours are critical, could still lose a leg apparently. Hope the pair of them make a full recovery although it has to be said it looks unlikely.
