Barcelona have been assured that the freezing conditions in Kazan will not affect the pitch for their game against Rubin on Wednesday evening in the Champions League after the Blaugrana cancelled their morning training session.
The Catalan outfit flew into the Tatarstan capital after a six-hour journey and experienced the below zero temperatures first-hand and immediately asked about the playing surface.
According to Sport there have been weather predictions of more snow after recent showers have covered the landscape around the city.
Pep Guardiola and his players are set to train on the grass, which is said to be longer than Barca are accustomed too, on Tuesday evening for the first time.
As the players prepared to head to the stadium the temperature was set to drop to minus three degrees centigrade and will be even lower at kick off time. :icon088:
Assistant coach Tito Vilanova has already visited the arena and had a look at the grass while the various fans and journalists that travelled with the squad are cautious about even going outside.
It is so cold that the club has called off the traditional stroll around the city while the players have worked in the hotel gym rather than travel to the ground and train.
