Wigan Athletic players to personally refund Tottenham tickets
The club have announced that the players of Wigan Athletic have decided to personally refund every Latics fan who bought a ticket from the DW Stadium ticket office for the match against Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.
Latics had a sizeable following at White Hart Lane and skipper Mario Melchiot, speaking on behalf of all the players, said today: "We feel that as a group of players we badly let down our supporters yesterday, and this is a gesture we HAVE TO make and pay them back for their tremendous loyalty.
"There is not a lot else to say, just that as a group of professionals we were embarrassed by the way we performed, we feel it was below our standards and this is something we feel we owe to the fans.
"Now we have to draw a line under the game, focus completely on training this week and bounce back on Saturday.
"We are professionals, we will take it on the chin and move on but it's important that we do not take our supporters for granted."
The club has confirmed that every supporter who bought a ticket for the game from the DW Stadium ticket office should contact the ticket office, either in person or by phoning 0871 33 66 552, and a full refund will be posted to their home address, hopefully within 14 days.
Refunds must be claimed on or before Friday 4th December 2009.

Woodgate fears World Cup omission
Tottenham's Jonathan Woodgate believes he has no chance of being selected for England's 2010 World Cup squad.
The centre-back, who has been hampered by a groin injury, has featured in only three Premier League games this term.
He has won two caps under England boss Fabio Capello, the last of which came as a substitute in August 2008.
The 29-year-old said: "I don't train all the time and Capello likes people who train every day. I haven't given up but we'll see what happens."
Woodgate's career has been blighted by injuries and he missed the start of this campaign after twice undergoing surgery on the groin problem.
The former Real Madrid, Middlesbrough and Newcastle defender returned to the Tottenham backline for the home defeat by Stoke in October and has featured in the club's last two league games against Sunderland and Wigan.
However, he remained pessimistic about his chances of making the trip to South Africa next summer.
National team captain John Terry and Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand, who is himself struggling with injury, seem to be Capello's first-choice pairing in the centre of defence.
Plus, Manchester United's Wes Brown, West Ham's Matthew Upson, Bolton's Gary Cahill and Manchester City's Joleon Lescott have featured in Capello's most recent squads and are perceived to be fighting for the two remaining central defensive berths.
Woodgate is more optimistic over Jermain Defoe's chances of making a major impact in South Africa, comparing the Tottenham striker to Barcelona's Lionel Messi.
Defoe scored five goals for Spurs in Sunday's 9-1 drubbing of Wigan and Woodgate stated: "JD can do anything he wants to do.
"Fabio Capello seems to have a lot of faith in him and he's been outstanding. He can make a massive impact at the World Cup, without a doubt.
"Put Jermain Defoe up playing for Barcelona and I'm sure he'd be well known as well.
"Full credit to him, he does it in training ever day. The Golden Boot? He's got every chance, hasn't he?"

Alex Song signs new long-term contract
As confirmed on Tuesday night in Arsène Wenger’s post-match press conference, Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that Alex Song has signed a new long-term contract with the Club.
Song (22), who joined Arsenal from French side Bastia in July 2006, is now a first team regular in the heart of the Club’s midfield, after enjoying his most productive and eye-catching season last campaign – playing 48 times in all competitions during 2008/09.
Alex (full name Alexandre Song Billong), who has also played often at centre-half for the Club, has now made a total of 96 appearances for Arsenal. Song is also an established Cameroon International, making a total of 15 appearances for his country, helping them qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations in January, and next summer’s World Cup.
Song was named in the Africa Cup of Nations All Star Squad in 2008, when he helped Cameroon to the tournament’s final. He was also Arsenal’s only player at the 2008 Beijing Olympics Football Tournament.
Alex joins Eduardo and Sanchez Watt, who have both also signed long-term contract extensions with the Club in the past week.
Everyone at Arsenal Football Club is looking forward to Alex’s continued contribution in the forthcoming years.
