No offers for Mascherano'
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson insists the club is yet to receive an offer for Javier Mascherano amid interest from Inter and Barcelona.
The Argentina international captain was a surprise starter yesterday as Liverpool opened their Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal.
Mascherano has made no secret of his desire to leave Anfield, encouraging talk of a move to Italy or Spain through his agent.
Christian Poulsen's arrival from Juventus has also led to speculation that the Denmark international has been brought in to replace Mascherano.
However, Hodgson expects the 26-year-old to keep giving Liverpool 100 per cent even if he stays beyond the transfer deadline on August 31.
Speaking about Mascherano's performance, Hodgson said: “It doesn't surprise me. I have had two weeks working with him and he is an outstanding player.
“He is a top-quality player, one of the best at his job in the world and he showed that once again today.
“Let's be frank, he is playing at Liverpool, which is a good club. How many clubs can he move to which will be better or even at the same level?
“We are not looking at clubs for Javier Mascherano that go into the tens - we are looking at clubs in single figures.
“As yet we have not received any offers. The fact is we want to keep him here and we will keep him here unless an offer comes in that is correct, i.e commensurate with his value and one we feel would be wrong for us to turn down because we have said if that offer comes in we will accept it.
“At the moment, it is not there, not on the horizon,” he concluded.

Atletico Madrid have sealed a deal for Juventus midfielder Tiago on a one-year loan, revealed the club's official website on Monday.
The 29-year-old had been on the outskirts of the Bianconeri squad since his arrival from Lyon in 2007, but had also spent the latter half of last season on loan at the Vicente Calderon, impressing under coach Quique Sanchez Flores and making 18 appearances in La Liga while scoring twice.
"Tiago has been signed on loan for one season," read a statement released by the Europa League winners.
"The midfielder will join the team for training on Tuesday."
No financial terms of the deal have been immediately released, but it was originally reported that the Portuguese international, who featured at the 2010 World Cup, was wanted on a permanent deal by Atleti.
Flores had recently expressed his desire to re-sign the player as he added 'vision' and creativity to the side.
