Barcelona defender Eric Abidal has had successful surgery to remove a liver tumour, the club have announced.
The 31-year-old France international was operated on by Dr Josep Fuster Obregon at the BarnaClinic Grup Hospital Clinic in the Catalan city.
Barcelona said the tumour was removed in a three-hour operation on Thursday without any complications.
"Depending on his progress, the player could be allowed to leave hospital within a week," read a club statement.
"By the express desire of the player, the club ask for the maximum respect for his right to privacy and confidentiality."
Abidal joined Barcelona from Lyon in 2007 and has been a regular this season.
Pep Guardiola's side lead Spain's La Liga and are through to the Champions League quarter-finals.
Capped 52 times by France, Abidal made his international debut in 2004 and has played for his country at two World Cups as well as the 2008 European Championship.
Cesc Fabregas and Cristiano Ronaldo are some of the fellow players who have sent their best wishes to Abidal since news of the tumour emerged on Tuesday.
His Barcelona team-mates have also been quick to rally round, with midfielder Xavi earlier in the week: "He's a strong person, mentally one of the strongest I know and an example to everyone in the locker room.
"We encouraged him and he was just like he always is, he gave us encouragement. He'll beat this. We were surprised how good of a state he is in. He told us 'that that's life'."
Speaking for the Barcelona squad, Xavi added: "It's probably the strongest hit we've ever taken. It was the worst moment I've ever experienced in a locker room.
"We're going to make sure this unites us more than ever. When averse situations happen to a collective, it helps unite them and that's what we're going to do: try to let it affect us the least amount possible. Life goes on." 巴塞隆拿後防艾比度在週四接受了切除肝臟腫瘤手術並十分成功。

他在剛過去的週日仍有在西甲上陣，而在週一則傳出其肝臟出現問題，但巴塞方面不願透露其腫瘤是良性還是惡性。
