The Phoenix Suns have agreed to terms with Utah Jazz assistant coach Jeff Hornacek to be their new head coach, league sources confirmed to CBSSports.com on Sunday.
Hornacek, one of the Suns' most popular former players, agreed to terms on a three-year deal for slightly less than $6 million with a team option for a fourth season, according to a person with knowledge of the deal. Contract details are expected to be finalized by Tuesday.
Hornaceck, 50, played for Phoenix from 1986-92 and made the All-Star team in his final season with the Suns. Phoenix also interviewed Rockets assistant J.B. Bickerstaff and interim coach Lindsey Hunter, who went 12-29 in the second half of the season after taking over for Alvin Gentry.
Hornacek, who also played for Utah, gained valuable experience as a player and later as a shooting coach under Jerry Sloan before joining Tyrone Corbin's staff as an assistant. Hornacek also interviewed for the Bobcats' coaching vacancy.
Gentry has emerged as a candidate to replace Vinny Del Negro, whose contract was not renewed by the Clippers last week. Former Nets, Hornets and Cavs coach Byron Scott also is considered a top candidate for the Clippers, in part due to his strong relationship with Chris Paul. Ditto for Warriors assistant Michael Malone, who was with Paul as an assistant in New Orleans under Monty Williams.
Before fully opening their search, however, the Clippers are said to be "going for big names first," according to a person with knowledge of their plan. Those include Jeff and Stan Van Gundy, Pacers assistant Brian Shaw and Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins, the person said.
Several teams, including the Clippers and Nets, are believed to be waiting for the Grizzlies' season to end to explore Hollins' availability. With Memphis trailing the Spurs 3-0 in the Western Conference finals, league coaching sources expect Hollins to entertain multiple offers as his philosophy -- and ultimately, his price -- might be in conflict with those of the Grizzlies' new decision-making hierarchy. Hollins does not have a contract for next season.
Shaw's agent, Jerome Stanley, told CBSSports.com on Friday that his client will not entertain any head coaching opportunities until Indiana's season is over. The Pacers and Heat are tied 1-1 in the Eastern Conference finals heading into Game 3 on Sunday night in Indianapolis.
Jeff Van Gundy, who will broadcast the NBA Finals for ABC beginning on June 6, has not commented publicly on any head coaching vacancies. His brother, Stan, said recently that he will not return to coaching next season.

果球如果係國際賽、學界一定吹左，但NBA係走步方面寬鬆
東岸呢個series真係吹得太嚴，你睇返馬刺繞前防守雙熊d動作，如果用呢邊的尺度應該好多foul

NBA當然鬆D，但既然合乎規則我覺得冇得吹喎，最起碼前掌冇離地
之但係返轉頭諗，應該好少球員會係個下揀先踏出左腳而唔係拍波直上:icon101:
