Women's Mistral : SENSINI takes fifth race

ATHENS, 19 August - Alessandra SENSINI of Italy won the fifth race in Women's Mistral on Thursday.

Faustine MERRET of France was second and Spain's Blanca MANCHON finished third.

The battle among favourites SENSINI, MERRET, Lee Lai SHAN of Hong Kong and Barbara KENDALL (NZL) began on the starting line.

The wind throughout the day was a gentle sea breeze, which started blowing from 190 degrees at 7 knots, and turned to 170 degrees at 9 knots when the race started in late afternoon.

Once again the left hand side was favored.

SHAN and KENDALL were over the line at the start. This is the second OCS (On the Course Side of the starting line) for KENDALL.

With two of the top sailors out of the game - SHAN had rounded first and KENDALL fourth -- the road for SENSINI, who had crossed sixth, opened up. She was able to claim victory without anyone threatening her.

MERRET also grabbed the opportunity to take second, ahead of MANCHON.

China's Jian YIN finished fourth, with Masako IMAI of Japan fifth.

MERRET leads the overall rankings after the second race was abandoned. SENSINI is second and SHAN third.

China's Jian YIN stands fourth, Zofia KLEPACKA of Poland is fifth and Jessica CRISP of Australia is sixth.
