Button能逃脫BAR的主要原因？！BAR車隊領導人David Richards對於首席車手Jenson Button明年將重返Williams車隊一事感到極度震驚，Richards強調Button仍與BAR車隊有合約上的關係，他絕不會讓Button就此轉隊到Williams車隊去。來自國外傳聞指出，Williams車隊能與Button簽約最主要的原因，在於Button的合約條款中有註明如果Honda不打算長期投入F1的話，那Button就可以自行解決合約。
而Honda與BAR車隊之間的合約將於今年賽季結束後到期，國外的最新消息指出Honda特別在新合約中立下逃脫條款，因此Button很有可能是藉此來解除與BAR車隊之間的合約。然而Richards強調：「Honda絕對不會不參加F1賽事。」此事最終很可能會交由FIA Contract Recognition Board.（FIA合約認證委員會）處理，不過相信Williams車隊一定是做好萬全準備才會挖角Button。

The BAR team is considering legal action to prevent Jenson Button leaving the team and taking up his drive for Williams next season according to reports in the British media.
"To be treated like this is dumbfounding," BAR team boss Dave Richards told 'The Times', "we're all utterly shaken... I have got 400 people in this factory who have worked their socks off night and day and then the guy who gets all the credit and drinks the champagne turns around and ditches them."
Button's move is the latest in a series of driver changes for next season, following last week's announcements that Ralf Schumacher will be driving for Toyota in 2005 and that Jaguar's Mark Webber will be replacing him at Williams. Giancarlo Fisichella has also confirmed that he will be moving from Sauber to Renault, and Jarno Trulli is expected to make an announcement as to where he will be driving next year in the imminent future.
But it is Button's move that is causing the biggest shock-waves through the sport.
"We believe that we can make Jenson Button a World Champion," Dave Richards continued, "and we, with Honda, have proved this year that we are going in the right direction - and we thought we were all going together. Perhaps Jenson has been led in another direction - down the garden path. I can only hope that I can talk to him and make sense of what is going on." BAR - 'Button is still ours'
Following Williams' shock announcement that Jenson Button will be driving for the team next season, BAR boss Dave Richards has responded with a statement setting out his team's position on the controversy:
"We are absolutely astounded to hear that Jenson thinks that he is leaving BAR for Williams next season. Neither myself, nor any other member of the BAR team, has been contacted by Jenson to discuss this matter".
"Jenson is under contract with BAR for 2005, since we took up an option on his services only last month.At no time during the last few months has Jenson expressed anything other than his desire to continue working with BAR to achieve our collective goal of winning the World Championship".
"It is our intention to enforce our current contractual position with Jenson. My duty is to the 400-strong workforce which has worked tirelessly over the past two seasons to give Jenson the car he has today; and to our partners, whose unfailing support and commitment to the team has contributed to the solid structure we now have in place. Unfortunately this is now a matter for the lawyers and I have every confidence that the legal process will confirm that yesterday's announcement has not only been premature but also invalid".

Tug of war for Button's services
Frank Williams, boss of the Formula One team that bears his name, has publicly insisted that Jenson Button will be driving for the team next year, despite BAR's claims that the English racer is still contracted to them.
"We are of the firm opinion on strong legal advice that BAR have lost the opportunity to retain Jenson", Williams said, "I have no doubt that he will be with the BMW Williams F1 team for 2005".
Williams said that he wanted to settle the dispute between the two teams amicably and quietly, but felt compelled to respond to the claims made by BAR team boss, Dave Richards. He admits that the dispute between the two teams might end up going to arbitration, or even to the courts.
"Whatever I said about contractual details, one fact is not contestable", Williams added, "Jenson wishes and expects to drive for the BMW Williams F1 team in 2005 and 2006, he has made this intention clear".
The argument apparently revolves around whether Williams' or BAR's contractual 'option' for Button's services takes precedence and the legal wrangling could continue for some time to come.
"I called David Richards approximately five minutes after I knew he had received that letter ," Williams told the BBC, "and said that we wanted to handle it privately, and that if there was disagreement then the first step would be the contracts recognition board. I had no intention of going public".
Williams asserted that he only released news of the Button deal after learning that Richards had spoken to 'The Times' newspaper.
