Trend: Skiles the Specialist
Typically, as the playoffs near, it's common for the contenders to shorten their rotation and dole out big minutes to regulars as they jockey for postseason positioning. The Bulls, who have employed one of the deepest rotations in the league all season long, were one prime candidate to shorten their bench late this season.
For example, it would have shocked no one if, as April approached, Ben Gordon was seeing more run, Eddy Curry sat on the bench less, and Kirk Hinrich neared 45 minutes per game. Not Scotty Skiles. Believe it or not, the Bulls have only one player (Hinrich) averaging more than 30 minutes per game, and he hasn't even played since March 21.
Instead, Skiles has taken a page out of modern-day baseball managing, employing his personnel in specialists' roles. Curry is the go-to-guy early and often in the first quarter. Gordon has more double-digit fourth quarters than any player in the Association. (By the way, think about that for a second, he has more than Kobe, Iverson, LeBron, Amare, Dirk, all of the above. Impressive.) Tyson Chandler leads the NBA in fourth-quarter rebounding and blocked shots. Andre Nocioni is the defensive pest.
With the Bulls climbing into contention for home-court advantage in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, don't expect Skiles to fix anything, because it's far from broken.

Curry Remains in Charlotte for Observation, Treatment
March 31, 2005 -- Chicago Bulls fourth-year center Eddy Curry did not accompany the team on the flight back to Chicago this morning. Instead, Curry, 22, remained in Charlotte, N.C. for observation and treatment for an irregular heartbeat.
Curry was at the arena for the team's game versus the Bobcats on Wednesday night but did not play due to his condition.
"Right before the game, I felt some light-headedness and dizziness," Curry told the Chicago Tribune. "It came out of nowhere, so it really kind of scared me a little bit."
The 6-11, 285-pound Curry has appeared in 60 games for the Bulls this season, including 60 starts, and is averaging a team-high 16.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg and 28.7 mpg, while shooting .538 from the floor.

Curry: "comfortable and in no distress"
April 2, 2005 -- Eddy Curry continues to undergo a comprehensive battery of tests at Rush University Medical Center. He will most likely remain in the hospital for several more days. The definitive treatment plan will be clearer on Monday when the testing is completed.
"He is comfortable and in no distress. He is with his family and maintains a positive disposition while the medical team does their work" stated Kathy Weber, the Bulls Internal Medicine/Sports Medicine team physician.
