a phy question

two insulated uncharged metal spheres X any Y are in contact with each other. a postively charged rod is brought near X without any contact while sphere X is earthed.
at steady state, which of the following description is/are correct?
1 shpere X gains electron
2 shpere Y loses electron
3 shpere X acquires a negative eletric potential.
4 shpere Y acquires a positive electric potential.
A1 only
B1 and 2only
C1and3only
D2and4only
E1,2,3,4
i wander y the answer is A.
X is negatively charged, but doesn't acquire a negative potential beacuse the system is steady?really confused
