Germany striker Birgit Prinz has capped another spectacular 12 months by being named FIFA Women's World Player of the Year for the third time in succession.
European triumph
The 28-year-old 1. FFC Frankfurt forward captained her nation to a fourth consecutive UEFA European Women's Championship earlier this year in England. She also helped Frankfurt regain the Bundesliga title from 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam and reach the final of the 2006 UEFA Women's Cup where they will tackle their chief domestic rivals in an all-German affair.
Vote details
In the vote of national team coaches and captains, Prinz received 513 points, 84 more than Umeå IK's Brazilian playmaker Marta. American Shannon Boxx was third. Sweden's Hanna Ljungberg was fourth and Renate Lingor of Frankfurt and Germany fifth. Also in the top ten were Solveig Gulbrandsen of Norway, Germany's Sandra Minnert and England attacker Kelly Smith.

On receiving her award at Monday's FIFA World Player Gala in Zurich, where Ronaldinho took the men's prize, Prinz said: "I'd like to thank all who voted for me. More importantly, I would like to thank Frankfurt and the German national team because without my team-mates this success would not be possible. Without a team nothing works in football."

Sand sets sights on new career

Former Denmark striker Ebbe Sand is to become chief scout of Silkeborg IF when he ends his playing career with FC Schalke 04 at the end of the season.
Key role
The 33-year-old's new role at the Superliga club will also see him train to become a sporting director, working closely with coach Viggo Jensen, and help to develop the club's youth players. Sand retired from international football after UEFA EURO 2004™ but still has a key role to play in Schalke's Bundesliga and UEFA Cup campaigns for the rest of the 2005/06 campaign.
'Looking forward'
"I am really looking forward to getting started," said Sand. "SIF and I have been having a dialogue for about a year now, and all the time I have been sure we would reach an agreement, as the negotiations have been very positive." He added that his experience as the players' spokesman for club and country would serve him well in his new job, along with the lessons learned over his successful career.

新浪體育訊 北京時間12月27日瑞典斯德格爾摩消息 現效力于西甲豪門巴塞羅那隊的瑞典前鋒拉爾森在接受當地媒體采訪時表示：自己計划在本賽季西甲聯賽結束之後回到家鄉瑞典踢球。
“我感覺是回家的時候了。”拉爾森和他的妻子在接受瑞典達格布拉德日報采訪時表示，“現在的最大問題是我和巴塞羅那俱樂部的合同，不過我相信這些問題在未來都將迎刃而解。”
拉爾森在上賽季就因為手膝蓋受傷缺席了大部分的聯賽，盡管如此拉爾森曾說過他覺得那個賽季自己在西班牙過的很愉快，但新賽季開始後盡管瑞典人沒有大的傷病，狀態保持的也不錯，但他始終要給喀麥隆人埃托奧做替補，並且出場時間少的可怜。現在拉爾森希望回到祖國效力，自己家鄉的球隊赫爾辛堡成了他的首選。

Estaba cantado, pero hasta ayer ni él ni el club lo habían hecho oficial. Cuando se hablaba de qué iba a ocurrir con Henrik Larsson y el Barcelona en 2006, cuando ya hubiese finalizado su contrato, lo normal era dar largas y aventurar que quizás habría un añito más por los servicios prestados. Pero no. Ayer, el futbolista salió en los papeles, en su Suecia natal, para anunciar que no seguirá en el Barça y que quiere retirarse jugando en su casa. El delantero no piensa abandonar el fútbol y apuntó que podría fichar por el Helsingborg, aunque tenía muchas otras ofertas de su país.
"Creemos que ha llegado el momento de volver a casa", declara Larsson, en referencia a su esposa, en el diario Helsingborg Dagblad. "Hay muchas cuestiones sobre mi contrato y creo que es mejor evitar cualquier especulación", añadió Larsson, que acaba su compromiso el próximo 30 de junio, aunque el club le prometió verbalmente la renovación hasta 2007.
Larsson también comentó que las cosas "serían diferentes si hubiera jugado más en el Barcelona", aunque especificó que "eso no es la principal causa" para querer regresar a su país.
La edad.
Larsson, cuya edad (34 años) le pasa factura en un Barça dominado por la juventud, prácticamente no jugó la temporada pasada por una grave lesión de rodilla (14 partidos, 4 goles) y en la actual se ha limitado a ser el suplente de Samuel Etoo en algunos partidos. Muy querido por la afición culé, el sueco ha jugado hasta ahora 244 minutos en 9 partidos de Liga (2 goles) y 255 en 4 de Champions (1 gol).
Irá al Mundial y continuará con Suecia
Aunque ya no será azulgrana la próxima temporada, Larsson espera seguir jugando con su seleccional nacional. De hecho, tras volver a ella para ayudar a su país a clasificarse para el Mundial, donde jugará en el grupo B junto a Inglaterra, Paraguay y Trinidad y Tobago, Larsson sigue siendo uno de los jugadores más famosos de Suecia.

Henrik Larsson, who was voted the best ever Swedish player in November, is to return home from FC Barcelona when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Decision announced
The 34-year-old striker, who joined Barcelona from Celtic FC in summer 2004, has been offered another one-season deal at the Camp Nou but will now be out of contract on 1 July. Larsson, who has been behind the likes of Samuel Eto'o in the Barcelona pecking order since his return from injury this season, told Helsingborg Dagblad newspaper: "Me and my wife have spoken about this for a while now and it's a decision that has grown on me over the course of the season. If I had played more things might have been different, but the fact that I'm not playing regularly is not the main reason why I'm going back to Sweden. The time is right. It's as simple as that."

His former side Helsingborgs IF are among the front-runners to sign Larsson, but the club said: "We will do everything we can to bring Henrik home. We know that we are only allowed to speak to him in January and when that time comes we will have set up a deal which hopefully will be enough to make him choose us." Larsson himself added: "I'm not ruling anything out, but I'm not promising anything either. I'll see what offers I get and after that I'll make my mind up." His current club meet Chelsea FC in the UEFA Champions League first knockout round.
