Wenger denies interest in Davids
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has dismissed reports he is interested in signing Edgar Davids or Olivier Dacourt and insists he is happy with his squad.Wenger's shock decision to sell Patrick Vieira to Juventus 10 days ago has left the club without their inspirational captain and prompted speculation over who will pull the strings in midfield.
The Gunners have been linked with moves for Newcastle's Jermaine Jenas, 22, and Julio Baptista, 23, of Sevilla in their search for a replacement but the duo are attacking midfielders.
Arsenal already have two promising youngsters in Cesc Fabregas, 18, and Mathieu Flamini, 21, but they are considered long term solutions, potentially forcing Wenger to pursue a temporary measure such as Inter Milan's Davids or Dacourt from Roma.
But the Frenchman insists neither midfielder is an Arsenal target and declared he is on no hurry to find Vieira's successor.
When asked about Dacourt, Wenger told the club's official website: 'No, there is no truth in that at the moment. I'm happy with what we have.
'I will add what I feel is really needed. Numbers-wise we dont need to add players but if we find a special player well take him.'
On Davids he added: 'Again there is no real truth behind that. There are a lot of players on the market. We have a big squad and we'll look for maybe just one addition.'
