Newcastle hopeful of Moore deal
Newcastle are in negotiations with out-of-contract defender Craig Moore to try and bring the 29-year-old Australian to the club.
"We are still negotiating with the player and his agent," said Newcastle chairman Freddie Shepherd.
"He has indicated that he wants to come to Newcastle but we have to get a deal that suits both parties.
"We have had glowing reports about Craig from Rangers and if he does come here, he will be an asset to us."
Moore, who has had two five-year spells with Glasgow Rangers, controversially parted with Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach last season.
The club claimed that he had been sacked for drinking, an allegation denied by the former Rangers player.
Moore agreed an 18-month contract in January, joining up with former Rangers manager Dick Advocaat.
But Advocaat resigned in April with Borussia deep in relegation trouble.
Moore cites family reasons for leaving the club.
Middlesbrough had previously been linked with the defender and expressed an interest in signing him during the January transfer window.
