Bolton manager Sam Allardyce has admitted he would be disappointed if Stelios Giannakopolous left the club.
The Greece winger, who has a year to run on his current contract, has been linked with a move to Liverpool.
'There is no way we want to lose him as he is a very valuable player for us,' Allardyce told Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme.
'I would feel let down if he left. When we brought him over everyone thought it was difficult for players from Greece to be good in the Premiership but we proved them wrong.
'But somebody can bid so much money you cannot resist it and if that is the case then life moves on for a club like ours.'
Allardyce is still looking to draft in four or five players before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
He remains keen to strengthen his squad, who are competing in the UEFA Cup for the first time.
He said: 'I have been left very frustrated, like many managers.
'I am still in the market for four or five players. At this stage of the year that is rather too many.
'We are light in defence at the moment and need one or two players there.'

Outpriced Schalke give up on Baros
Schalke have pulled out of the race to sign Milan Baros from Liverpool.
The Bundesliga side had wanted the 23-year-old Czech Republic striker to boost their strike force for their domestic and Champions League campaigns.
However, the club's general manager Rudi Assauer spoke to Liverpool on the phone on this morning and it soon became clear a deal would not be struck, with the Anfield side ruling out any loan move.
'The club (Liverpool) only wants to sell,' said Assauer to club website www.schalke04.de.
'Eight to 10million euros is impossible so Milan Baros will not be moving to Schalke.'

Bolton midfielder Stelios Giannakopoulos wants an end to the speculation surrounding his future.
The 30-year-old Greece international admits he is aware of interest from Liverpool and is frustrated by the continuing rumours.
"I hope it will have a happy end so that I can relax," he told the Manchester Evening News.
"The stories about Liverpool were not speculation. They wanted me and maybe they still want me. I have to know."
However, Stelios, who is in talks over a new deal, insists he is happy at the Reebok Stadium.
"I am very happy here. You can see that from the football I play," he said.
"I expect things will get rolling again and the gaffer (Sam Allardyce) or the chairman (Phil Gartside) will speak about the situation and bring an end to the story."

Allardyce said the club had not received a bid from Liverpool.
"We don't want to lose him, but my chairman assures me Liverpool have not made a bid for him," Allardyce told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek.
"So we can just hope it's speculation. He was very valuable for us last year and had a great season for us."
Stelios, who scored five goals in 11 league games at the end of last season, has one year left on his current Wanderers contract.
"I'd feel let down if he moved to Anfield, but these things happen in football," Allardyce added.
"He's proved everyone wrong since he came back from Euro 2004, but if someone can bid so much money you can't resist it. And life moves on, that's football."
