Rafael Benitez today claimed Jose Mourinho's latest rant over Steven Gerrard's decision to stay with the Reds is a sign that the Chelsea manager is worried about Liverpool's title credentials this season.
Mourinho reckons Gerrard will come to regret his decision to stay at Anfield after performing an amazing u-turn in the summer to stick with Liverpool.
Mourinho said: "When he decides not to join this club, I think it will be a loss for him, for his career.
"He can say 'I was European champion at Liverpool' and I have to say that is correct. But I can say to him in the next 10 years we will compare trophies at Chelsea and trophies at Liverpool. And he will lose."
Benitez, however, hit back today and insisted Gerrard will be playing in a Liverpool team more than capable of winning plenty of honours over the coming seasons.
He said: "I like it when Jose talks about us because it means we are doing well. :icon101:
"He must be worried about us. I think we will do very well this season. Steven Gerrard will win many trophies with us - hopefully starting this season." 今年英超嘅前奏好精彩。:icon124::icon101: 佢冇驚,只不過在意姐
