DONETSK - Inter take part in the Champions League/European Cup for the 13th time in their history. The Nerazzurri were European champions in 1963/64 and 1964/65 with 3-1 and 1-0 victories over Real Madrid and Benfica, and in 1966/67 and 1971/72 lost to Celtic and Ajax in the final.
So far Inter have played 99 matches in Europe's top competition for clubs, collecting 49 wins, 30 draws and 20 defeats, scoring 150 goals and conceding 90.
Inter's top scorer in the Champions League/European Cup is Sandro Mazzola with 16 goals, while Adriano is Nerazzurri top scorer in one edition of the tournament with 10 goals last season. The Brazilian is also the only Inter player to have scored a hat-trick in the competition (Inter 3-1 Porto last 15 March).
Wednesday's match in Donetsk is therefore Inter's 100th in the Champions League/European Cup. The first was a 0-0 draw away to Everton on 18 September 1963, with the first victory a 1-0 win at home to the Toffees a week later. The first defeat was a 1-0 loss to Rangers in Glasgow on 3 March 1965. Inter's biggest win was a 6-0 victory over Dynamo Bucharest in Milan on 11 November 1964 and the biggest defeat was that 5-1 loss at home to Arsenal on 25 November 2003.
