Wigan make sensational £10M offer for Real Madrid's Owen

Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan is setting up a stunning £10 million deal for Real Madrid striker Michael Owen.

The Mirror says Whelan has made approaches to the Spanish giants and the unhappy star (right) about the bid and wants an answer as soon as possible.

Whelan has told boss Paul Jewell he will try to land the star in one of the most incredible transfers of all time - and the chairman is putting his money where his mouth is.

The shrewd businessman thinks he can recoup the fee if Owen agrees to come - and he is willing to pay his £4m-a-year wages for a season in the meantime.

The chairman is willing to sign Owen for the Premiership new boys and then give him the option to leave if a bigger club comes in either at the next transfer window or next summer.

Wigan have been in contact with Owen, who was in the north west at the weekend, to find out more about his future - and discovered there are NO immediate takers. :icon082::icon082::icon082::icon082::icon082::icon082:
