Deportivo La Coruna have revealed that Tottenham failed with a move for
striker Diego Tristan on transfer deadline day.
Depor president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro claims that the North Londoners
tabled a bid of €9 million (￡6 million) for the Spain international, but
saw it rejected.
Spurs were busy on Wednesday snaring Jermaine Jenas, Lee Young-pyo and
Grzegorz Rasiak before the deadline, with the move for the Polish hit-man
being finalised minutes before the midnight cut-off point.
However, it has now been revealed that Rasiak was not their primary target
and a move for him was sanctioned after the approach for Tristan was
rebuffed.
"We rejected a huge offer of €9 million from Tottenham for Diego Tristan,"
Lendoiro declared.
"We believe Diego can recover his best form and we have faith in him."
The Seville-born striker was one of Europe's most feared marksmen a couple
of seasons back, but has struggled for form and fitness in recent times.
Last season yielded only nine goals, although, after a promising pre-season,
Depor believe he is now showing signs of getting back to something like his
best.
Martin Jol made it clear he was looking for a powerful target man after
offloading Fredi Kanoute and losing Mido to suspension, and Rasiak was
ultimately his preferred option after Depor stood firm.
