Jason Pierce also announces a new London date

Spiritualized have completed their new studio album, and have announced that it will be released in early 2008.
The band have also revealed details of a one off London show in December.
Songs from their as-yet-untitled new album, which will be the band's first since 2003's 'Amazing Grace', will be performed by frontman Jason Pierce at a unique London show on December 9 at the Union Chapel.
Pierce has described the new album as: "the work of the Devil...with a little guidance from me."

如果要你作曲，你會 –
將你所能掌握的音樂元素全都放在一起，以示功力。
相信簡潔就是美，只用少量配器，挑戰難度。
姑勿論你傾向那一方，你都一定曾經被無伴奏的人聲感動過。
雖然大編章複雜元素的代表如 Radiohead (OK Computer)、Queen (A Day at the Races) 及 Pink Floyd (Dark Side of the Moon) 的作品叫人歎為觀止，但簡約風格的作品亦有其迷人之處。就以 James Blunt 的新唱片為例，音樂結構無疑是豐富了，旋律都很甜美，但總是像欠缺了些甚麼似的；直至中段那些慢歌，只是一把歌手的聲音、一部鋼琴，但心碎之處絕對令人動容，也正是這些作品，我才有去擁有的衝動。
Ian Brown 的新作 The World Is Yours 亦都是偏向這種風格，從第一首點題歌曲到最後的同名短曲，絃樂幾乎就是主旋律這個說法相信聽過這碟的人都會認同。
而主音結他的運用只在 The World Is Yours、Sister Rose、Street Children 及 Me And You Forever 可以聽到。特別是 Sister Rose，這是全碟之中結他最搶耳的部份，而幾句短句中更讓我想到 E.L.O.的 Don’t Bring Me Down。其他的歌曲結他被刻意調較到隱約可聽的音量；盡管如此，The World Is Yours 及 Me And You Forever的 blues licks 都仍然攝人。
Keyboard 是用得最多的配器，當中的歌曲包括 On Track、Save Us、Eternal Flame (不是Bangles 那曲子)及 The Feeding of the 5000，而後者以鍵琴所營造的未來果效絕對是神來之筆。鼓及敲擊樂在 Street Children、Goodbye To The Broken、Me And You Forever、Illegal Attacks 都有一定的比重，特別是 Street Children 的鼓聲，是那種你會在 Massive Attack 的音樂中會找到的聲音，為大碟加增一份流行氣息。
當然作為此碟骨幹的絃樂，其變化及感染力之大，是令我驚嘆它在搖滾樂曲所能做到的絕不比結他及鍵琴遜色，因為它有時細密得扣人心絃、有時澎湃得風起雲湧、有時沉重如安魂曲、有時影像化如觀賞 James Bond 的電影一樣，色彩豐富，氣魄動人。
另外，助陣的猛人有 Sinead O’Connor、令 Ian Brown 明白到用音樂作為控訴社會不平現像的 Steve Jones (前 Sex Pistols 結他手) 及 Paul Cook (前 Sex Pistols 鼓手)，還有 Paul Ryder (前 Happy Mondays 低音結他手)，他們的影響力使 The World Is Yours 的訊息更加有血有肉！
The World Is Yours 是 Ian Brown 最勇敢的一步，他亦走得異常漂亮！
