Loeb and Gronholm entered as privateers in 2006?One of many possible scenarios
Marcus & Sebastien will have
to take important decisions
With both Citroen and Peugeot pulling out of the World Rally Championship at the end of the season, many questions remain unanswered a few weeks before the end of this year's championship.
Two of the top drivers in the sport, Sebastien Loeb and Marcus Gronholm, will be directly affected by the departure of the French teams. After such a remarkable season, it seems very unlikely that Sebastien Loeb won't find a new team for 2006 and the same situation applies to Gronholm.
Many rumours are already circulating. Citroen are considering the option of making a return as an official team in 2007. It seems that Loeb would prefer to continue his successful relationship with Citroen and might decide to drive for a private team using the Xsara WRC in 2006.
According to the British press, Kronos Racing and Oreca could take over the development of the Xsara next season, with the help of solid sponsors such as Sony (PlayStation) and Philip Morris.
As for Marcus Gronholm, the possibility of joining this outfit as Loeb's teammate for 2006 is one alternative. Another serious option for the Finn would be to continue driving a Peugeot 207 WRC prepared by Bozian Racing. The Lyon-based team might decide to have a number of Peugeots to compete against the works teams in the 2006 World Rally Championship.
"It's not true that I have signed," said Loeb to Autosport. "I cannot, because Citroen can't tell me anything until they make the decision about whether they will come back in 2007.?/FONT>
Nothing is decided yet... Ford and the other works teams will probably make some attempts to convince Loeb and Gronholm to join their ranks as well. Who wouldn't want to have one of these great Champions in their team?
