Hearts to name new coach

Former Oxford United manager Graham Rix is widely expected to be unveiled as the new coach of Hearts on Monday.

The former Chelsea coach will put pen-to-paper on a deal reputedly worth £250,000-a-year as he prepares to face the challenge of taking the reins at the sharp end of Vladimir Romanov's Scottish regime.

Hearts had been trying to lure Sir Bobby Robson to Tynecastle but recent upheavals at the club would appear to have made the 72-year-old think twice about accepting a move north of the border.

Claudio Ranieri had also been touted for the post but was scratched off the shortlist due to his wage demands, prompting The Jambos to turn to Rix.

The former Arsenal and England hero, who has been out of the game since leaving Oxford in March, flew to Edinburgh to see Hearts' 3-0 defeat of Dundee United on Saturday after meeting with owner Romanov.

Many feel that the wealthy Lithuanian's inclination to interfere with on-the-field matters will make for heavy weather in the Tynecastle hotseat but, if he is happy to accept Romanov's constant scrutiny, Rix may well have landed the plumbest role in Scottish football.
