Gerard ruled out for six months

AS Monaco FC midfielder Gerard Lopez could be out for up to six months after
rupturing the achilles tendon in his left ankle during Sunday's goalless
draw with Paris Saint-Germain FC.

Carried off
The former FC Barcelona player was carried off on 65 minutes after falling
to the floor in pain unchallenged following a short sprint. An initial
diagnosis suggested a six-month lay-off but scans will determine whether
surgery is needed. Regardless, he will miss the rest of Monaco's UEFA Cup
group stage campaign.

Squillaci out
The unfortunate 28-year-old, who signed for Monaco last summer, had just
returned from a sprained right ankle. He is Monaco's second major injury
victim in a week after defender Sebastien Squillaci pulled a hamstring
during Wednesday's French League Cup tie against Dijon FCO.
