Pearce evasive over Steed
Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce has played down suggestions that he may renew his interest in Steed Malbranque when the January transfer window opens.City made two approaches for the Fulham midfielder in August but both bids were refused. But following Malbranque's two-goal salvo against City on Saturday, reports suggesting that he could be Manchester-bound have resurfaced.
Pearce will have a £10 million war chest when the window re-opens and he has not ruled out the possibility of upping his £5 million summer offer.
"I know a good player when I see one and Steed's a good player. He scored two good goals against us, scraps away and is a credit to Fulham," he said.
"We were interested in him over the summer but were knocked back and that's the end of it. Every now and then our interest in him is raked up and obviously when he scores two goals against us it will get raked up again.
"He's a Fulham player. I can't answer yes or no to whether I'll go back in for him. I wouldn't like to be associated with a headline saying I want Malbranque. He's Fulham's player."
