Everton manager David Moyes is worried about the pressure being placed upon his former striker Wayne Rooney.
The next time the Manchester United striker faces European opposition in a competitive arena will be at next summer's World Cup finals after the defeat to Benfica in midweek.
With many tipping Sven Goran Eriksson's side to do well in Germany, the expectation will be that Rooney can be the spearhead and key figure for his country.
"Wayne's been outstanding," said Moyes to Sky Sports News, ahead of a meeting with the former Toffees tyro at Old Trafford on Sunday. "His form is excellent.
"Like at Everton, it just worries me the amount of pressure that gets put on him.
"Mainly by you people, and probably more so now.
"I think everyone is expecting Wayne to win the World Cup for England.
"For a boy of 20, that's an awful lot to put on his shoulders. I'm not saying he's not capable but I think the pressure on the boy is immense.
"We tried to keep it away from here and I'm sure Manchester United are trying to do the same now."
