Ferguson ponders early retirement


Everton manager David Moyes says striker Duncan Ferguson is considering quitting football.

Ferguson, 33, could retire after getting increasingly frustrated by a long list of injury problems.

"Duncan's struggling and he's considering his future. He will make a decision in January and it is possible that he will finish then," said Moyes.

"He doesn't feel that he can make an impact as he once did and he doesn't want to let anyone down."

Ferguson, who has recently had hamstring and hip problems, was poised to retire next summer when his current deal at Goodison Park expires.

But Moyes is keen for the Scottish forward to battle on and not retire early.

"I've told him to see how things go over the next couple of weeks because we still need him to play if he can," Moyes added.

"It shows the character of the man that he told me about it and I give him credit for that. He was very open about things and very honest.

"He doesn't enjoy not being able to make an impact. He's a bit down about it but I've been speaking to him regularly."
