According to the Spanish sports newspaper, Marca, the Italian forward will be joining the Merengues in the coming days.
An agreement has been reached between Antonio Cassano and Real Madrid, with the go-ahead being given by the new Technical Director of the club, Benito Floro.

The final step for the operation to be completed is for Roma to accept the offer made by Real Madrid, who are expecting to have the player already by the 6th of January, in time for the Copa del Rey.

Cassano will substitute Raul in Real’s forward line, as the Spanish captain will be out for almost the entire season.

Real Madrid are considering a shock move for former Barcelona captain Pep Guardiola.

The club's vice-president Emilio Butragueno is pushing for the deal as he is convinced Guardiola, now 35, is the midfield general Real currently lack.

Guardiola has agreed a deal with Mexican club Dorados de Cualic嫕, but Real president Florentino Perez is understood to be coming round to Butragueno's way of thinking and told AS yesterday: "It is conceivable that Guardiola will retire in Madrid."

Real captain Raul is close friends with Guardiola and remarked: "With Pep controlling the field, Beckham, with his fight and honesty, the class of Zidane and the football nous and discipline of Guti, we will improve."
