New Boy Nemanja Trains With United
Nemanja Vidic has kicked his first ball as a United player following the completion of his transfer from Spartak Moscow.The Serbia & Montenegro defender trained with his new team-mates for the first time today, having obtained his work permit on Wednesday. He'd previously passed a medical and agreed personal terms.
Nemanja will wear the number 15. Photos of him training with United will be on ManUtdpics.com from Friday afternoon.
In a statement, the club said today:
"Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement with Spartak Moscow for the purchase of 24 year-old Serbia & Montenegro international defender Nemanja Vidic for an undisclosed fee.
"The player has signed a four-and-a-half year contract which will see him at the club until June 2010."
Sir Alex Ferguson said: "I'm delighted we have come to an agreement. Nemanja is a quick, aggressive centre-half and at 24 will be a terrific addition to the squad."
ManUtd.com broke the news on Christmas Day that United had agreed a fee with Spartak.

United are closing in on the signing of Monaco's £5m-rated defender Patrice Evra. United chief executive David Gill has held talks with Monaco about Evra. Fergie wants him to fill in at left-back in place of the injured Gabriel Heinze, who is out for the rest of the season. Evra's agent, Frederico Pastorello, said: "We spoke at length with the club and they are not opposed to Patrice leaving. If the right offer is made, the transfer to United will take place."

Sir Alex Ferguson last night claimed the only way Manchester United can catch runaway Premiership leaders Chelsea is if Jose Mourinho's side are struck down by malaria. Burton Albion winger Keith Gilroy is looking for a win double over Manchester United in their FA Cup third-round clash on Sunday. The Conference outfit defeated United 2-1 in a pre-season friendly and Gilroy said: “We only beat their second string side but it was still nice to win. That was just a warm-up. I think it will be a little bit different this time!”

Sir Alex Ferguson has warned it may take United another three years to catch up with Jose Mourinho and his marauding champions Chelsea. Fergie said: "We have a young team which will get better, but unlike the group that came through in 1992, they have not had the advantage of growing up together.
