Monaco closing in on Vieri dealMonaco are in talks with AC Milan over a deal to buy striker Christian Vieri from the Italian club.
Italy international Vieri, 32, has been linked to several Premiership clubs, including Tottenham and Newcastle.
Vieri has failed to make an impact since joining AC Milan from city rivals Internazionale six months ago.
Milan vice president Adriano Galliani said: "Many teams want to sign him on loan but he will only leave as a permanent transfer."
Vieri is under contract with the Rossoneri until 2007 but has fallen down the pecking order behind Andriy Shevchenko and Alberto Gilardino.
With the World Cup looming, Vieri is keen to move in search of playing time to boost his chances of making Marcello Lippi's Italy squad.
Vice president Galliani said: "There is an important negotiation with Monaco regarding Vieri, in the next few days we will see whether the talks can be successful.
"He will only leave if the deal is completed within the next two or three days."
