Viola sign Per Kroldrup

Fiorentina have made the surprise signing of Everton defender for an undisclosed fee.

The Viola have been in the market for a centre-back for some time and were deeply disappointed to lose out on the signing of Nemanja Vidic - who opted to move to Manchester United two weeks ago despite having previously agreed to join the Florence-based side.

Kroldrup signed for Everton from Udinese in the summer for £5.1m, but has been restricted to just one Premiership appearance this term after suffering a catalogue of injuries.

With the Toffees now looking to boost funds to improve their strike-force this month, after the sale of Marcus Bent to Charlton, they agreed to wash their hands of their injury-prone Denmark international.

It was thought that Kroldrup favoured a move to the Bundesliga, with Schalke 04 interested in recruiting the 25-year-old, however it seems the Gigliati have beaten the German outfit to the punch.
