Lecce give Baldini the boot

Silvio Baldini is the second Lecce Coach of the season to be sacked, announced the club this evening.
“This was certainly a tough decision to make, especially as the situation that has developed is not entirely the fault of the tactician, but all the components came together in this way,” explained director of sport Guido Angelozzi.
“It was necessary to shake things up and we have handed the reins over to youth team Coach Roberto Rizzo and goalkeeping trainer Franco Paleari for the time being. We thank Baldini for the work he has done and wish him all the best in the future.”
Baldini is the second Lecce boss to be given the boot this season, as his predecessor Angelo Gregucci lasted just five games.
They slipped down to the foot of the table following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Ascoli and that proved the final straw for the Stadio Via del Mare outfit.
“Rizzo was chosen because he has a long history with this club and proved he is a winner in his many prestigious years in charge of the Lecce youth squad,” added Angelozzi.
Rizzo started his playing career with the Salentini in 1980 and, after a brief spell at Cosenza, spent four years here including a promotion to the top flight in 1985. The 45-year-old also played for Salernitana, Monopoli and Perugia before retiring in 1994.
