The top 10 threats to hit NBA century mark
Kobe Bryant's 81-point explosion against the Raptors got us thinking ... who in the League today has a shot at hitting 100? We came up with 10 guys who have the best shot at reaching Wilt.10. Amare Stoudemire
When he's healthy, he's an absolute beast who's game is improving by leaps and bounds every day. He has a 50-point game to his credit and has shown that he can totally overpower other bigs who are guarding him. For him to even approach triple digits, he'd need to set up camp on the foul line, his new short-range jumper would have to be water and he'd have to rack up a ton of easy fastbreak points. (Career high: 50)
9. Dwyane Wade
D-Wade is a long shot to reach triple digits, mostly because he rarely takes threes — a prerequisite for a guard on this list. What he does do though is get to the line. Flash is second in the League in free-throw attempts. (Career high: 48)
8. Gilbert Arenas
Yes, Gilbert is what we like to call a "jacker." Our guy has a quick trigger and has shown he can fill it up like any player in the League. He's inconsistent, but can fall into a zone. And when he does, his range is unlimited. (Career high: 47)
7. Ray Allen
Did you see what he did against the Suns on Sunday night? 42 points on eight threes, including the game-winner that was basically from the parking lot. He's the best shooter in the League and is a killer once he gets into a rhythm. (Career high: 47)
6. Dirk Nowitzki
Dirk can shoot the lights out and is usually creates all kinds of matchup problems for defenders because of his size and athleticism. He's 11th in the NBA in free throws attempted, but he'd need to live at the line for a real shot. (Career high: 53)
5. Vince Carter
No way he would have made a list like this a year ago, but VC is back. Half-man, Half-amazing has been exactly that this season averaging 25 points per and dropped a 50 spot on Miami back in December. (Career high: 51)
4. LeBron James
The kid ... well The King just turned 21 years old last month and is light years ahead of any other player to make the jump from high school straight to the NBA. LB ranks third in scoring, averaging 31 points per game this season and has really worked on his mid-range jump shot and 3-point shooting. Before this season, LBJ would not be on this list, but he's taken his game to the next level this year. (Career high: 56)
3. Tracy McGrady
Sure, T-Mac has been hit with the injury bug this season. But, in his first game back from injury Friday, T-Mac dropped 35 on the Bulls and against the Pistons on Sunday he blew up for 43 points. All this after taking two weeks off due to back spasms. T-Mac can be explosive — he's a two-time scoring champ and the youngest player in NBA history to average over 30-plus points per game since the NBA/ABA merger in 1976. He shoots the ball from distance, is a monster when he's in the zone and has shown that he can score a lot of points in short periods of time. (Career high: 62)
2. Allen Iverson
The League's four-time scoring champ, the Answer is definitely a viable 100-point candidate. If anyone is ever going to reach the century mark, he has to be willing put up the necessary shots. A.I. isn't afraid of jacking up the necessary shots in a game and he lives ... sleeps ... eats ... on the free-throw line. (Career high: 60)
1. Kobe Bryant
62 points last month, 81 last night, next month 100? This list wouldn't even exist if not for his display Sunday night. You best believe that Kobe now thinks 100 is in his grasp and at some point will make another run topping his torching of the Raptors. (Career high: 81)
