Stuttgart sack TrapattoniAFP

BERLIN (AFP) - Veteran Italian manager Giovanni Trapattoni was sacked by Vfb Stuttgart, the German first division club announced.
Stuttgart decided to part company with the heavily decorated coach known as 'the maestro' after a series of poor results which has left them in seventh place in the Bundesliga.
Trapattoni, 66, who won six Serie A titles with Juventus in the space of ten years, joined Stuttgart last summer.
Under his stewardship the club have won just five of their 19 league matches and been knocked out of the German Cup.
Club president Erwin Staudt said: "Giovanni Trapattoni is an absolute gentleman and the most successful manager in the world. But despite that his work with the team hasn't been as efficient and successful as we would have hoped.
"That's why together we reached the conclusion that despite being well into the season we can reach our objective with a new manager, that being to qualify for the Champions League."
Stuttgart are lying 25 points behind leaders Bayern Munich, another club formerly trained by Trapattoni.
Last November, after winning just two of their first 11 Bundesliga games, Trapattoni appeared resigned to his fate when he told journalists: "I am not afraid of being sacked and will not resign."
